ezy trail boat racks

gidday all pick up my first camper trailer next sat ,finally steped up from tents. i decided on an easy trail from what i read in here about them, and theres lots to read they sound ok, i orderd a few extras with it ill list them bike rack hitch,arc pac 2 burnerwith grill and the boat racks i mainlly what to here from anyone who has the the boat raks and what they think of them also can i have some advise on what to check for the tow home ( melbourne to geelong about a 2 hour trip ) i haven,t hooked up any electric brake controls yet  but plan to do i need them for the trip home my tow is 98 nissan pathfinder also what sort of controller do you think i need keeping in mind that most use will be around great ocean rd looking forward to using it and so is my wife and 2 year old daughter will get used to setting it up in carvan parks before we head of ito the bush  cheers john

Ezytrails have override couplings, so as long as the brakes are adjusted properly and the override cable is properly tensioned you can get some use out of the brakes without a controller for the drive home.

But, and a big but, take it for a spin when you pick it up and if your not happy with how the override brake is working, take it back to the factory and get them to adjust them.

My Ezytrail was trucked to Adelaide and the brakes were so badly adjusted they were non functional.

As for a brake controller, I have a Prodigy P3, but this is personnel preference really. The redarcs are getting favourable reviews now, particularly the one with the remote.

Sorry, can't help you with the boat rack, I don't have one on my Ezytrail.

thanks for info marschy  i will take it for bit of a spin  around the area before heading home im not to savy on the comm so it may take a while to work out but will be happy to post pics once i do , also is there any where on this site i can get info on how to adjust the brakes . and are you happy with your ezy trail i read in here that there is a problem with the tents leaking have you exsperienced this   cheers john

Hello John,

I think you will find some info by doing a search for 'adjusting drum brakes'. Here is a picture of how to adjust Alko brakes, which is the same way you do the Ezytrail's.



You'll need a drum brake adjuster tool which you get from Super Cheap Auto, or if your ticker is good and you have the patience for it, try adjusting the star wheel with a flat head screw driver. There is a slot that looks like a coin slot on the back of the drum that the adjusting tool is inserted into.

You jack the trailer up, remove the wheel, tighten the star wheel until the brakes grab and the hub won't rotate, then you undo the star wheel until the drums can just be heard rubbing on the drum. You should feel light resistance when the drum is rotated.

Very happy with my EzyTrail, and no, it doesn't leak. Just don't forget to season it.

We have boat racks on our ezytrail.

They need an offset to get the rack frame outside of the extremities of the trailer, as its very hard to get them into their required location in their mounts once the tent is packed up. In reflection,  l would have done my own after purchase. They are just a basic H frame attached to the sides. PM me if you want more info.
