Packing them in like sardines!!!!

Over Easter we were camping at Abercrombie Caves. We took off Thursday afternoon to beat the rush (or so we thought). Arrived around 6.00pm and the main camping ground was 90% full. Lucky for us we did manage to get a great spot in one of the small camping areas on the otherside of the causeway, we had another 5 families arriving the next day so we had to spread to save the space. Got up early and there was already a stream of cars coming down into the valley. For once our friends turned up early so we didn't have the awkward questions about how much space we where taking up.(plus I went up and paid the first night for everyone and stuck the tags on tent poles sectioning off the area)

By the end of Friday so many people had no alternative but to leave and find another camping ground as there was not a square inch of space left.
I felt really sorry for those with small children who have travelled a long way and a number of groups that had to now work out plan B.

I think there is an easy fix to this, take bookings!! especially over easter.

I am now even more a fan of Cundle Flat Farm, they only take certin number of bookings so that everyone is guaranteed plenty of space no matter what time you arrive. Takes a lot of stress out it!!!

We popped up to Point Plomer from where we were camped at Port Macquarie. I'd sent GOLDIE up there the day before with a gushing recommendation of the camp ground and surrounds, so was somewhat surprised when he came back less than impressed. The reason why was obvious when we arrived. It was grubby and crowded and not much like the appealing camp ground we'd previously attended.

I'm not one who needs or wants to camp where there is no one else about, my wife and I will have run out of conversation long before we arrive, but I don't like to camp on top of others either. We'll go back to Point Plomer, but not in peak time. Ever.

... but they still pile into Sheepyard/Frys like Sardines... There is so many 100sq klm to choose camping areas in..

We saw some caravan parks on the weekend that were disgracefully stuffed to the doors out near Cohuna and surrounds.. Quambatook  etc.

I just spent Easter with not another camper or tent in sight .. but I could hear them on the odd occassion ... and they kept driving past to steal timber from the creek near us.  Other than that, I saw more of the resident cows to be honest.

We spent Easter at Silverton plenty of Camp sites and room for all. I even had room to fly the Helicopter (toy), We had one clear day and saw the sunset at Mundi Mundi lookout. That is a spectacular lookout, words don't describe it you have to see it. Barnray

Last time we camped at Abercrombie at Easter (9 years ago) there was not half the people there.

Our group camp at easter always has it issues as for some in our group its the one time a year they go camping and require such things as proper toilets and hot showers.(Mind you due to the number of people there was a toilet paper shortage, lack of hot water and the drains kept blocking)

we stayed in a caravan park over Easter at a town a few hours from Brisbane. whilst checking in Friday morning i asked the owners of the park if they were booked out, to which the owners replied....we are full but we've purposely left spaces between people so it's not jam packed in  to be honest, they had left heaps of space about the place and it was far from booked out, especially the unpowered area we were in.

Hi All,
I heard a story of Lake St Clair over Easter being overly full. The story went, that it was estimated at about 4500 people, with a normal capacity of about 3000.
I was also told that by Sunday that the water supply to the amenities had run out.
What a nightmare.

a few years back we stayed at a caravan park at bremer bay and the staff followed us to the camp site told us where to set the ct up and where to park the car and what direction to point it for an easy exit so we did so and went for a walk for a few hours came back to find our ct and car locked in and the only way out was to have about four families move there tents caravans vehicles etc ... they were not happy and explained to us they too were told by the staff where to set up and park cars . It was an absolute mess.

We had more room in the caravan than they had up there Jules, but that just easter

Everyone has a choice and I would prefer to be out camping in the fresh air than at home. Just need to pick location better.
