Gasfitting regulation can get confusing, yes AS5601 is the correct gas standard,AS5601.2:2010 is the most recent document relating to caravans and boats etc, problem is that this edition is not adopted yet in many state as it requires a change to govt Acts,so not sure if Vic is on the prev edition or the current 2010 version, NSW is still on the old but is very near to adopting this new code along with the new requirements with Fairtrading becoming the regulator. As stated in a previous post there is a difference between what is legal and what some gasfitters will provide a compliance certificate for.The current 2010 code has a requirement that flue shall not terminate within 300mm of a window, vent, opening etc and the reference to a switch on a window is no longer in this code . Gas appliances shall be installed to manufacturers instructions and clause 6.4 states that when there is a conflict between the manufacturers instructions and the standard, the the matter should be referred to the technical regulator for a ruling. You may guess that my expertise is in the gas and plumbing industry and if i was asked to install a heater into a jayco camper i would not have any problems as the airflow in a canvas top camper would far exceed any requirement of section 7 of the code which is full of rulings and calculations relating to ventilation of a compartment where an appliance is used, and you aren't going to use it with the windows open as it would be too cold!
