I'm with RAA - or whatever they're called in your state.

Very happy with them (but never had to claim so far but their list of inclusions is very good).

Try NRMA they offered us a reduced rate if you nominate months that you will not be travelling . I think you can get up to 3 months no charge.

Cil only had the van for 5 months and already put in a claim and Cil have been very helpful at getting the van fixed.

CIL for the trailer and Affinity for full cover on the tug. Have not had to make a claim on any and fingers crossed I dont, but when I was deciding/ researching they both came with positive reviews.

Look at the fine print in particular when you are far from home.
What happens if the tug is damaged and undrivable and the van isn't damaged?
How do you get the van home after repair?
Tug and van are okay but you are not and can't drive?

Took out CIL insurance on my new Lifestyle AT11....,

"Just for laughs" - and to maintain the rage... I decided to read their PDS...   (Well at least about the first 30 pages worth - of the 56 pages they dish out...)

(Even I couldn't stand it anymore...  grrrr)

BUT - how many know this - (and remember "CIL" is spruked as one of the so-called better ones....??)     LOL


If your van is trashed by a storm event - CIL wipe you - no cover - when the weather event becomes a "Named Cyclone"...   That's a bit unfair...     Sometimes you are out and about in Oz when these things descend on you...      (May not be able to shelter in some Wollies underground car park...)

Ditto your annex....   Too bad if you are stuck somewhere trying to get back to your van to close the awnings but cannot...    (No cover)...   

And any van without solid sides is NOT covered for contents insurance...    "O' but that's no good to me.....    My van's walls have canvas...."   They said - "if its a pop top - she'll be all right".... Really???     When the chips are down and I needed to make a claim - lets hope you were right!!!     ie:    The fine print says exactly that:  "any van without solid sides is NOT covered for contents insurance"    (or words to that effect)....
 
Contents in a canvas annex is not covered....   "Okay - I guess..."

If your van is lost or stolen but is found again (by police etc) within 14 days - CIL will not replace it - or insure it.....     They say "it was not lost or stolen"    If it turns up after 15 days - they are on the hook.... Either way - too bad if hoons have thrashed / trashed it in the meantime....    Pre 14 days - all you are entitled to is a patch and bog fix (at best)....    Is that really fair...

ps - the new for old deal only applies for 2 years from when it was first registered...

If your van is attached to a registered vehicle (eg you and tug on the road / pulling up at your parking bay in the caravan park etc etc) - CIL do not cover you for ANY form of public liability insurance....     They say they push the issue of liability cover back onto your car's insurance ...   wtf....

In the event of a large claim - CIL decide your fate...       Whether they repair; replace; or write off and token cash you....    You have no say in it...

Contents is some things "loose" in the van....    Fixture type big ticket items such as solar; generators; DCDC chargers; 240 chargers; air conditioners; BMS; aux batteries; fridges and slides; TVs; satellite; media; etc; etc are only covered IF they can be proved as being part of the original kit supplied / installed by the van manufacturer...
Now that's a charmer, hey....      All those extra thousands worth in mods you have invested in - CIL says 'go jump'.....

There was more disappointing evil as well - but you get the gist....

Have it insured with RACV - just got the renewal notice. To my surprise the amount has not increased from the previous year... That MUST be a first  :cup:

Dude a cylone does not just decend on you it is a weather system that is slow moving and will give you like a weeks warning that it is coming. If you then still decide to stay in its path well I would not insure you either

I assume you then need to  be an expert in reading these slow moving weather systems to know which direction you should head before the wind hits the coast and that it may  A. turn south along the coast , B. turn North along the  coast  C. continue in land 50km D, continue inland 100km, 200km ? 
I think many like me could get confused as to which way to head.
It would be a bit like predicting what a wild bushfire  coming out of the Blue Mts is going to do!

I got a quote from CIL but rejected them as they would only insure me for the actual price I paid for the camper. Not a lot of use if you buy an old girl cheap and do her up. Ended up with AAMI.

NRMA.  Claimed already and the process was easy - and they were happy to use the repairer we wanted, and do the whole thing based on photos emailed to them.

NRMA also will pack up and relocate your camper if you are injured or sick and taken to hospital.

Thanks for the replies folks (the positive; constructive ones at least)...

Reading about these other insurers has motivated me to push on and stomach some more call centre chat; (with CILs competitors)...

Though I am paid up atm; they told me I have a 30 day cooling off period -- AKA give 'em the boot period...
