Hey guys, came across this GU and it looks like a pretty good deal.

http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/leeming/cars-vans-utes/low-milage-gu-patrol-wagon-for-sale-3ltr-turbo-diesel-lpg/1014417987?ea=3286487&utm_source=ALERTS&utm_medium=EMAIL&utm_campaign=EMAIL_ALERTS

As I have very limited knowledge of Patrols I am interested to see what you guys think.

Cheers.

Early 2000 models had a few motor problems hence the (grenade) reputation. Usually $10000+ to fix if it happens.

2004 on are much more reliable but the problem still exists.

Search patrol forum for more info on the zd30 motor.

I had an 04 model for 8 years with no problems but it was always in the back of my mind.

Cheers

GU sums it up pretty well.

Why bother with the worry when you can get a 4.5 or 4.8 petrol for less $$.  The overall costs are pretty close anyway.

Mate,

I just went through this whole process. had a 2001 manual. Injection pump went and engine had blow by getting worse. All quotes were around the 10K to repair/replace engine. This is very common up to 2004/5, and, while not as prevalent,  later models also had same issues.Bought a V8 100 series. Awesome!!!!!
