Pigs can swim !
« on: January 29, 2013, 11:06:29 AM »
We have alot of Myswag followers on our FB page but thought we would post up some pictures of the water up here in the Gulf.
We are looking after Dunbar station over the wet. Im doing some welding and yard building, servicing the big gen sets, fixing the cruiser utes and general stuff. Lil is busy getting ahead with preparing her food for when the staff arrive for mustering. (the wife is the station master chef).
Our two kids Hamish and Matilda are just getting filthy and having fun tagging along on the quad bike.

Since the Cyclone came across the Gulf before hitting the coast we have had a Deluge of water as the Palmer and Mitchel rivers burst. We saw the water rise 5m in a few hours.
Because the road to Dunbar is all dirt and over 460km of it from Mareeba you cant drive here as soon as it rains ,1" of rain makes the road impassable.
We are fortunate to be here and have the Helicopter to get above it and see whats going on. We have to go open gates as the water rises to allow the cattle to get out of the water.
We have seen a massive boar swimming past our generator shed and I was amazed the thing could swim.......it swam around for ages and then disappeared only to turn up again a few hours later. I have pulled out some Roo's and little wallabies and put them up on higher ground. The snakes have also been around swimming around the quad bike trying to hitch a ride but im not putting up with them in a hurry.
We have been traveling Oz Since April 2012 with our 2 kids under 3 and our big dog. We have been working when we needed to which allows us to travel where we like without any time constraints. We have been on the cattle station for most of the mustering as the experience is amazing and now we can pretty much get work on any other station with our experience now.

Due to the Floods down south its affected our communication system. Telstra system is down which means our phones dont work...........If there is now and emergency we cant call the RFDS or get any help. I dont understand how after the floods before something has not been put into place like a back up system.

Anyway here are some picture of the things you dont really get to see up here.

Some before and after shots first.

Dunbar Station  ( Before )

Dunbar Station (Now)

The Mitchel River ( Before )

The Mitchel River ( Now )

The Burke Developmental road.

Poor Skippy

Bloody feral Pigs
