Question for Goldstream, Jayco & Coromal camper owners

The trouble and strife is wanting to get out of the soft floor camper and into one of these style of wind up campers.

What do the owners of these do for their lunch stops whilst travelling? At present we have pantry drawer inside the tailgate of the trailer that has our bread, sauces etc in it for making the sambos. What do you do for your lunch stops? Do you have to wind the camper up when you stop for lunch, or are you able to access the pantry and fridge whilst the top is down?

Cant do that with my Flamingo, but we have a fridge in the car, a drop down table on the rear door, we can have food long the way..
Not as easy as a van, or swing out kitchen, but works for us...

Hi Jim,
Our Swan, an 82 model, is pretty much the same as the later models and we can pop one catch(left hand front) open the door and crawl inside, open the fridge if need be, the pantry we can't. So if things are needed while on the move we put them in one of those clear 30lt tubs with the lock lids.
We also have a fridge in the back of the Cruiser for drinks and things while on the move.
Friends have just purchased a Coromal and you can not access the fridge unless it is wound up, which IMO is a really stupid design fault, But that's just my opinion 
I don't know about the Goldstream.

Same as above i have a fridge in the car and just put the side table down on the goldstream to make lunch, we just keep a plate and a couple of things in a picknick set in the car as we use that when we down have the camper

If i have forgotten anything the food pantry in the goldstream can be reached through the door withour having to climb in

I can acess the fridge and all cupboards in the goldstream with the camper wound down if i have to by climbing in

Same here as above, I carry a Waeco in the Cruiser, sometimes two and there is a dual gas burner on the side of the Goldstream Storm and we use the drop down table on the side.  I have an awning on the side of the vehicle if its hot and the chairs are inside the back of the vehicle, only takes a few minutes to have the kettle boiled and food being devoured.

We do not access our Goldstream for meal and snack stops, generally plan ahead and keep these in the car.

I need to wind the camper up about 5mm to get my door open though.

On another matter we load up the camper pantry and fridge with food before we go. I just send the kids crawling in to fill er up.

Like most others we have a fridge in the back of the car and with planning all is good... we don't access the camper at all other than the side access which we store some chairs....

Same as above, take what you think you might need in the car with you. We can also access the fridge in our Jayco Eagle by popping the lid slightly. The canvas does not need repacking after this, the lid doesn't go up high enough. Just a point though, when the other posters have said "climb in" they really mean"crawl in"

This is the only major issue with the pop top. If only they had a door to the fridge on the outside, like a hatch. Hmmmmm

Another issue is being able to turn on and off the main power switch as well when the camper is down.

I can reach my switch if i CRAWL in to flick form 240v to 12v.. I can also get to my fridge...

Once the top is down, it is not possible to open a Coromal F400 camper, consequently there is no access.

Thanks for all the replies. Thought this may be the case.

We currently have 2 fridges, one as a fridge the other as freezer. Had been thinking of keeping the freezer and ditching the fridge if we moved on to one of these windup campers seeing as how they have a fridge in them. Might have to give it some more thought.

IMHO you are better off with 2 fridges. When you go on day trips you then have access to cold drinks and food. You do get a small freezer in the CT and its good enough for some snags, bacon, a few icy poles for the kids + 1 or 2 other random items. Just have to plan your meals according to the type of food storage available.
Every style of CT has certain drawbacks, and access (or lack thereof) whilst collapsed is one of the issues for wind ups.

We havn't used our Eagle for traveling yet, so far destinations have been less that 4 hours away.  Like we did in the back of our Hilux when we did a lap, I've though about making up a day box with tea/coffee, cups/cutlery/plates, single butane stove and a few food basics.  Then store it in the side hatch door for easy access, also we too have a fridge in the car.
