Hayfever
« on: December 30, 2012, 10:04:19 AM »
Hi all just wondering if everyone else is struggling as much this year as I am. I usually use Zyrtec but they don't seem to be working. I am like a prisoner at present as when I go outside I am in for an attack.

Anyone else struggling and what's working for you?

Yes it has been a shocking year and has seemed to last longer down south.

I use Becanase Nasal spray, seems to work for me  ;D

Yep I know what you are talking about.
I had the injection from the doc's this year and it worked a treat.  ;D
It is a shocking year for it though

It's been a bad year for me.
I've found changing the brand of medication each pack seems to help.

Also discovered a tip that helps. Take one teaspoon of creamed horseradish. Gives a real kick through the sinuses and seems to 'reset' a bit. Seems to stop some of the worse attacks I've had.

Been taking some cascade draught today and it doesn't seem so bad but tomorrow?

I think this is the worse season ever. I usually recover a bit when summer starts, but not this year.

Yep, it's been a shocking season for many of us. I started using Rhinocourt Nasal Spray on advice from my Doc and it has worked a treat. Does take a couple of days of using before it kicks in though.

Cheers

I went to the GP about my hayfever a couple of years ago (I get hayfever it shockingly bad) and was prescribed a nasal spray. It's awasome and this season have only had one (or two) days bad enough to warrant taking an antihistamine.

It affects me also, hence heading north was great. I found Polarimine which is a stronger antihistamine but it can make you a little sleepy but worked really well for me.......

Careful with the nasal sprays. Don't overdose if really bad.  I did this and did something to my mask cells and have had troubles 10X worse than my hay fever.

Changing meds each year seems good as does taking Zyrtec or similar and some eye drops before going outside.

The wife suffers badly with hayfever, never had it myself.

She usually takes Telfast, but lately they haven't been working so well. I suggested she try something different, so she went the Beconase nasal spray. This seems to work a treat. I think the body can build up an immunity to the effect medications can have if used too often or for too long, so changing meds is a good tip.

She still uses the Telfast as she has an unknown allergy to something. Has been tested dozens of times for all sorts of things, but they still cant work out what it is. Her reaction is really bad hives, only a jab with the epi-pen works then. So for allergies, the Telfast seems to work well.

Good luck with it, all you hayfever sufferers. It does seem to be a bad season for it.

my daughter suffers from hayfever badly, it brings on asthma, had to end up getting her desensitized. And yesterday she was outdoors for a couple of hours and I could see her slowly getting worst and then came the raspy breathing. That $1500 spent on desensitization did absolutely nothing.  :-[ :-[ :-[

I get the same thing. No one can work out what it is but I end up with Hives..........sh!ts of things they are. I use Zyrtec to stop the itching and lately have been using the Cold and Flu tablets which seem to clear up the Hives...have to use the older style ones with pseudo ethadrine (sp) though. I get some wierd dreams from the things.

Interested to hear about the epi pen, will have to look into that.

Yeah mate, they're not nice. She gets them on her neck and inside her mouth and throat, and if we're not quick, they constrict her airways. It's pretty scary stuff and not a nice thing to see at all. You're supposed to be calm and relaxed for the hives to disappear,  but it's a bit hard when she's struggling to breathe.

So she now carries the epi pen everywhere. One jab of pure adrenaline and the hives are gone in literally seconds, and she's up and bouncing off the walls and ready to run a marathon!! You need a prescription for them, and some repeats, as they have an expiry date.

The Telfast (green packet) seems to work the best for her and she hasn't needed the pen for over 12 months now (touch wood).

Glad it's not just me then, forced to spend way too much time inside and not out enjoying the summer period camping, fishing etc.

Happy new year to all, time for a frothy or two to end the year

Polaramine.  Took one this morning ... haven't needed to head to the loo for some tissue yet.

when it comatoses me!

That stuff knocks me for six as well.  Take one of those and it's goodbye 48 hours.  But gee I feel rested afterwards.  I reckon that's how it works ... patient becomes comatose and therefore isn't worried about the hayfever.
