Suggestions Campsites Around Bowen, 1770 / Agnes Waters, Yeppoon & Airlie Beach

Hi Guys & Gals,

We are planning to drive down from Cairns to Noosa and back this Christmas, taking five days to make the journey either way. We are planning on stopping off and staying around Bowen, 1770 / Agnes Waters, Yeppoon, and Airlie Beach. We don't specifically have to stay in these places, they just seemed like logical areas to stop when considering driving times, but we are happy to stay anywhere around them that's not too far away or it could add or subtract too much traveling time.

I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions with regards to places we can camp around these areas, we will have a baby so we will need places with at least basic amenities like toilet / shower blocks, beach front would be great!

I have done quite a lot of research on the Net, but it's really hard to gauge what these places are like based on a couple of photo's, so personal experiences would always be appreciated. I've also had a search through MySwag and there is quite a bit of info on 1770, but not so much on some of the others.

Any info would be appreciated, also as a side note when researching on the Net I noticed campsites seem to give allot of preference to caravans, with tents / trailers hardly getting a look in, I guess it costs more for a caravan site and so that would be why?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey mate,
I can vouch for Coolwaters Caravan Park at Kinka Beach,Yeppoon. Great place. Staying there for 10 days over Easter. 4Th year in a row.
Either of the caravan parks at Agnes/1770 are good as well. I think your biggest problem might be getting a site. I wouldn't leave it too much longer before you decide where you will stop.
Either way sounds like a good trip. Will be hot without a shady site but coming from Cairns you'll be well aware of the heat.

I can vouch for Coolwaters Caravan Park at Kinka Beach,Yeppoon.

X2...we were there early January this year for a two night stay, plenty of camping spots for trailers, good facilities...probably the pick of them in that area between Yeppoon and Emu Pk...I would stay there again for sure.

Thanks guys, I think our main problem is going to be finding anywhere which doesn't have a minimum stay, it's a bit of a pain in the arse.

I never realised it would be so difficult over x-mas, all the sites want more than their pound of flesh from you at that time of year

We really loved the wreck rock campsite below Agnes Waters in the Deep water National Park .Does have some basic facilities, drop toilets and cold showers . I dont know wether these meets your requirements ? But the sites are fantasic. Semi private nestled within the trees and just a short 5 min walk to a beach that has shelter behind the rocks .Cant wait to go back again ! Check out the link below.

I just wanted to thank you all for taking the time to share your advice with me, I think we are still going to do this trip, but in low season, as doing it in high is just too hard. All the campsites have minimum stays which is problematic when your trying to drive from Cairns to Brisbane, and to be honest a lot of the camp sites on the Sunshine Coast look like huge tent cities or refugee camps, with everyone crammed in like sardines, it's just not my idea of 'fun.' I think I have had unrealistic expectations as to what we can expect, we like small campsites with space and views, we had visions of staying in a small campsite somewhere on the Sunny Coast in peace and quiet right at the top of the beach like we do up here in Cairns, obviously I have been a but naive! I think we will just go up to Lake Tinaroo for x-mas, and consider doing this trip in November when it is quieter.

On that note does anyone know when the school holidays are in Queensland and NSW so we can avoid them, and so avoid the crowds?

Big 4 Caravan Parks at Airle beach,Townville, Cairns are all very good park if you want some where easy to stay at and the kids will love them they all have Water Parks to play in.
I have stayed at all of them the Airle beach and Cairns were the best

Do you want to park camp in Noosa or stay on the northshore on the beach?

I would recommend Munna Point or The council run camp on the beach on the Northshore, if wanting to park camp......but staying on the beach is way better if your set up for it.
