Places to go Camping in Victoria with a Canoe

Having just purchased a 16 foot MadRiver Adventure Canoe I am looking for places we can go camping near a good paddling river or lake/dam in Victoria.

We are new to canoes so need something very settled to start with. We will be 4 up in the canoe at times. 2 adults and 2 kids. We will probably do a bit of fishing in it from time to time as well (not 4 up).

Places we are considering are The Murray River, Lakes Entrance area, Inverloch. Our next big holiday is Kangaroo Valley so we will be taking it up there (That place gave us the idea to get one)

The Mitchell River may be a bit to fast flowing and have too many rapids, from what I am told.

Around Talbotville the Crooked River is a bit shallow in places.

Any suggestions?

Nelson .. The Inlet and the Glenelg River NP .. Lake Fyans in Grampians .. Teddington reservoirs nr St Arnaud ( Free camp )

Theres the Dargo and Wonnagatta that both go into the Mitchell River then out too sea.

Bundalong, there is a camping area in the Lower Ovens state park and there are all the backwaters of the lake as well as the Ovens and Murray rivers, just have to watch out for us water skiers in the Murray, they have stopped skiing in most of the ovens now. Gets  a bit crowded in peak times nowdays but still a good spot as there are miles of backwaters to explore in a boat / canoe.
Whack this into google maps  -36.0557,146.20746 this is the main camping area

Mitchels Crossing , Mitchels Creek south of Nagambie Central Vic . flat water about 1 km to the Goulburn river plenty of fishing spots ideal to practice on  :cheers:

Jamieson river upstream of Granny's Flat, ya have to get out and push at times but you can safely go several klm's upstream, but there are some big fish in there if you work at them

Plenty of backwaters off the Murray around our part of the world.  There is also a number of areas around Bundalong, Lake Moodemere, Lake Mulwala, etc.  We are on the same boat as you guys, bought a canoe earlier this year and still getting used to it so looking for locations without too much current...

We took the canoe out for our first paddle on Friday afternoon after work.

Went up to Blue Rock Dam at Willow Grove.

Very happy with it, seemed to go pretty quickly and once I got to used to the steering all was good. My wife was a bit flighty when the kids moved around too much but she soon got used to it.
