Within a couple of hrs of Perth for a long weekend
« on: July 23, 2012, 11:40:40 PM »
Good evening everyone,
It's been a while, but I am back to the forum and back to camping. Going to be spending the next month getting my 4wd and camper spruced up then heading out there.
As I am new to camping on the west coast I am looking for hot tips on places for a long weekend within 3hrs of Perth. I prefer the coast but would go East for a good spot. I am after bush camping, a fire for cooking, water for playing (preferably the ocean), privacy and space, kid friendly, relatively easy access and peace! Please let me know anything that you would recommend.
Cheers and thanks in anticipation.

I'll kickstart it...........

East
Check the granite loops trail and choose one of the larger rocks with plenty to see eg, Kokerbin, Elachbutting, Baladjie, Karalee, there are plenty to choose from with Kokerbin probably being the closest.

South
Heartbreak trail south of Pemberton, Canebrake Pool, Honeymoon Pool and surrounds, Dwellingup, check out the campgrounds by region on the DEC site.

North
Ellendale Pool

OK,

We headed north and did the Pinnacles a few weeks ago. Great spot! We stayed in Cervamtes at the CP. The west Aussies don't like ruining their beaches with camping. The signs tell the story "no camping, or else!". Next northern trip we don't stop until Jurien.

This weekend we are doing a one nighter. The Catholics have a holiday on Monday so there's no school. We'll head off Sunday and go for Lane Poole Reserve. It looks good on DEC. it's a reccy for spots for Xmas.

The weekend after we are going allllllll the way to Woodmans! A bit embarrassed to admit that ...lets move on.

Did I mention that the 15 yo wants to have friends for a sleep over in the backyard? Does that count as camping?

I told you I was getting back into it!

See you out there.

I went to Denham last weekend, not exactly a short trip but it was fun and my kids caught their first squid which made it worthwhile

We went to Sandy Cape 2 weeks ago for 2 nights.
A bit windy but we enjoyed it. The kids were body boarding every day.
