Tarps
« on: December 08, 2012, 01:06:01 PM »
I've just bought a 18ft x 12ft silver Oztrail poly tarp and have been looking at spreader bars on Ebay, They seem to come in lots of five, Do I need this many or will one do?
Cheers Dave.

You just need one spreader bar/ridge rail IMO.  Tentworld sell them singularly.

The tarp I have is about 20 x 20. I have 2 spreaders but normally use only the one.
You should be more than right with just 1. Buy decent quality though.
Forgot to add get a centre pole aswell. You can buy ones that clip on to the spreader.

You can buy a complete pole kit for the tarp.  Includes spreader, poles, ropes and pegs.  Works out a bit cheaper if you need them all.  When we had the big tent, we bought a kit.  Great product.

Gday Dave
We usually set up a 24x12 tarp where we camp at Xmas as a communal area. I just use the 1 ridge pole across the 12' span. The only extra I do is to use some decent pegs(450mm) on the centre ropes where the spreader is & on the corners, the rest are just std sized pegs (300mm).

Thanks for the replys,
Good idea about the bigger pegs where the spreader bar is Bullfrog, I was thinking about useing double ropes on the center poles as well as the four corners.
