New CT Ordered - Any Suggestions For Add On's?
« on: October 07, 2012, 05:24:09 PM »
Hi guys,

We have ordered and are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our new CT, we ordered an Emu Camper Trailer - SUV, it's basically designed as a semi off road CT to be pulled by the likes of Nissan X-Trail / Rav 4 and those kind of vehicles (we have an SUV). It's funny but I have been reading the threads about people waiting for their new CT's, and we all become like children waiting to open our presents at Christmas!

Anyway, here is the link to the trailer we have bought :

www.mycampertrailer.com.au/semi-off-road-camper-trailer-package/134-emu-suv-roader-camper-trailer.html

Also a big thank you to 'Swagger' Tim - AKA 'Smartway' for popping into Emu Campers to check out the CT for us, and also all the other Swaggers who offered to check it out for us. This was really a big help to us as we live in Cairns and just don't have access to Camper Trailer sales companies like you do elsewhere in Oz, so we had to order something online.

In the end we bought the SUV model, we added on a stone guard, a tool box, gas struts, Qld rego, an upgraded kitchen and with transport from Brisbane to Cairns ($900), the trailer came in at $8500.

Emu Campers particularly impressed me for two reasons, I initially mentioned I would be interested in the fully off road model, but when I told them an X-Trail would be pulling the trailer they talked me out of it, even though the fully off road costs more, as they said an X-Trail wold struggle with the weight. Fair play to them, they could have made more money and sold me a product which would not necessarily have suited us but they didn't. Also for reasons I won't bore you with there was a problem with the bill, which meant there was $500 still outstanding after we have paid, but they conceded it was their mistake and honoured the quote they provided us, this was good of them, they could have been difficult about it all but were not. I think this says allot about the integrity of the owners.

Anyway, I just have a question, whilst we are waiting for the trailer to arrive we were thinking about what we could add onto it. We were thinking :

PVC pipe to hold tent poles
Marine carpet for the inside of the trailer box
Attaching spirit levels to the trailer for ease of set up

But we can't think of anything else, can anyone else suggest any other add ons which won't cost the earth? I like 'Mattos' addition of 'Quick Fists' to his tool box to hold an axe, but the wife has put the kibosh on that one!

Cheers - Baz

Congrats on the new camper. It will change your life.  ;D

Without a doubt, get LED lights. Either the Korr set, or make your own light bars. There's threads in the electrical section to tell you how.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but given I can barely change a tyre I think anything electrical is probably way out of my league!

G'day Baz

Firstly congrats on the purchase of the camper mate. Hope you have a ball with it.

All the suggestion so far are must haves IMO. The Korr lights are great, and if you don't want to do a full electrical install, think about a battery box with a 12v outlet in it, like some of these from Ark:  http://www.arkcorp.com.au/Products/Battery-Box/View-all-products.html

Good luck mate, and don't forget the pics when you get your Emu ;D

Cheers

Baz1, don't be afraid, elec installs are a piece of cake once you are confident. It's not the doing, just knowing that what you are doing is right (& safe). Solar, water, power, so many add ons to make camping fun, but none of it matters as long as you get out there and beat the big smoke "buzz".
Think back 25 years and who had Mobile phones? Same applies to CT's: no extras and still gonna have a ball. Congrats on purchase, have fun.
