Hard Floor Starting point.....
« on: October 03, 2012, 03:39:41 PM »

I remember a similar thread quite a while back, but am buggered if I can find it.

Thinking of upgrading the Austrack to a hard floor but dont need all the fancy bits.

Is there such an animal i.e a quality trailer with good canvas aimed at the lower end of the market with limited gadgets?

Thanks in advance guys.

Hi Sambo,
Here are a few I can think of off the top of my head.

http://www.pioneercampers.com/
http://www.cubcampers.com.au/
http://www.adrenalincampers.com.au/
http://www.kimberleykampers.com/index.php?item=sportsRV-off-road-camper-trailer#/1/

Most of these have cheaper models that are worth a look like the KK Sports RV.  I'm sure there are plenty of others too.

southern cross campers have just released a hardfloor at a reasonable price at $18,900

A bit different as it is a forward folding camper, giving you a dining area as well as a bed area

Thanks fellas for the suggestions. I have been in the game for a bit and am fairly well up with the main players. Being a fridgie I can fit out all the bell and whistles and was sort of hoping for a good "basic" hard floor that can be bought before it gets to the gadget section of the production process. Of course of lot of this stuff needs to be added as the build progresses, so I am probably grasping at straws....Anyways if no one here knows, no body does!  ;D

After our first 5 week trip away last year with the 3 kids under 6, we erected our humble freedom tent 27 times, stuffed 118 sleeping bags....you get the drift.  We came home looking for a hardfloor.  Started looking at the cubs, so many second hand ones on the market that we planned to modify.  We then started planning our own build to our own specs, but stumbled upon a '99 KK.  Basic hardfloor we picked up for a fraction more than the estimate of our own build.  Guess it depends on how much of a hurry you're in to buy!  Goodluck with your decision  Kris.

A recent post on here from someone (sorry, old age memory) who'd ordered a new Cub, but ordered it without a heap of the extras.
I'm sure most hardfloor manufacturers would build you your 'basic' model if you asked for it. But keep in mind, those 'extras' are bought cheaper by them with a large(ish) markup when fitted, but you'll most likely only get their 'cost' discounted from final price!

In the last 10 years or so, the Aussie Swag hasn't changed all that much (I'm biasedly thinking that you just can't improve on perfection  ;D ) ... have you though about one of those second hand?   8/10 owners keep them in very good nick and you can still do a few mod's to them if you wish.

I am with Kit_e_kat9  on this (execpt I am a Kimberley person not an Aussie Swag) the older KK's and AS's (I am taking like 10 years) are still going strong but don't have all the mods like the current ones but still enough to get you buy.

At the end of the day it will depend on where you want to take it.

Customline campers have a new hard floor model. All Aussie made with the same quality that goes into there soft floor range. Its Fairly basic compared to KK and AS but it will allow you to option it as you need too.

I might be the one that bobnrob refers to above. Currently enjoying setting up our cub which was ordered with the basics we wanted - ext 150mm dawbar, gal, rear tyre carrier etc. the comment about the price being reduced by the cost price of what you leave out is about right. Best to start with base model and spec up if you go the same way.

Anyhow, have a good look around and decide on what are the essentials for you. If you have time then go down the road of adding bits once you have it. This might save a bit of $ too. If you don't need the saving and are short on time to get the fit-out completed then I'd suggest buying a trailer with most of the bits you want included. In our case it is a big project.

Have fun whatever you choose. There are certainly plenty of brands to choose from at the moment
