Thanks Brett greatly appreciated, that is exactly what I think happened and that is backed up by Hatch and Alco.

The annoying part is Great Aussie Campers inclination to deny any other other possibility and accusing me of things I know where not the case.

in our case loosen all bolts further and then whinching axel back in place with other car and re-tighten bolts and the changing plans and going to Bourke instead of Currawinya to get suspension reset and new centre bolt installed.

every 20 or 30 k's we had to stop and re-tighten the bolts

Unfortunetly the hole around centre bolts where so worn out that in Sydney all leaves will need to be replaced.

Jacked up the camper with the hilift to take the weight off the spring. Remove the spring and replace centre bolt with one that would fit from a collection of bolts that David was carrying. From memory we had to leave one leaf off as couldn't press the leaf pack enough to get the bolt through. Loosen the other side u bolts and just roll the wheel back to centre and refit every thing.

yes would be handy to have some high lift points fitted to trailer, needto tackle that when home

Quick update here, as you probably heard Great Aussie Campers closes it doors on the 5th of October 2012.

A pity, in many ways I like a lot on the trailer and if id buy again my only changes would be choosing the heavy duty upgrade I did not know about when bought and to ensure there is more room in wheel arches as well as fitting double lock nuts on my axel ubolts.

Klaus and Shane came trough and extended the room in the wheel arches and fitted a new set of leaves and double lock nuts on my request. (checked all locknuts after the new sets of leaves where installed yesterday and two of the main nuts where not as tight as the others and still had 1/6 of a turn to go, so I still believe the original set was not as tight as they should have been, checking by hand may be superior to using a air compressor with a set torque.

they also did give me mates rates for a re-welding and support of the suspension I had install along the way.

PS.

I did not get a refund for the expenses incurred to get trailer moving again on our trip but I guess silly me agreeing to "return to base warranty" in terms and conditions.

Considering what they are going through at the moment I think what they have done for you speaks volumes for their integrity as people. Many would have not helped under their circumstances.

yes 100% agree though it is sad that we see someone doing the right thing as the exception then the norm (and what Klaus and Shane have done is what I would have expected and what I would do for our customers in such a case)

Good to see you had a good resolution.

I wish Shane and Claus the best, and hope his son recovers fully.

I guess the best we can do is all of us with an Aussie made product is to get out there and tell everyone to buy local.

It is our kids future we are talking about.

Great to hear your trailer is back on the road Steve.  Time to plan your next trip!
I know this thread has come to an end but I'd like to mention a couple of things.
Firstly, I have a GAC Wollemi but did not get the off road upgrade until 10 months after purchase.  The standard specs have changed a tad since my purchase and I should probably have had the 8 leaf spring and 50mm axle from the beginning.  That said, and yes I'm only a novice to the CT scene, I have exclusively camped in caravan parks to give me time to understand our new 4x4, trailer and their capabilities before setting off on our trip to the Kimberly next year.  Whilst we have travelled over 7000 kms with our trailer, I have yet to take it off road. We've used it heaps and have a good understanding now of it's workings.
Great Aussie Campers was still a relatively new business and was improving all the time.  Could the trailers have come with more detailed instruction? Sure and in time I think the boys would have.  That said, the customer has to take some responsibility in learning their CT and it's limits and maintenance requirements.  Isn't that part of the fun anyway
Anyway, my 2c worth.  We are more than satisfied with our GAC and feel for Claus & Shane like others.  Well done on all your hard work fellas and good luck for your next venture!
