What we need is a generation or two that want to work

Agree - But that shouldn't get in the way of me being able to improve myself if I so wish to by going to TAFE etc...

We have had over the last 12 mths no less than 5 people come here to start work.. One was being walked around the building intro'ed to everyone (what about 30mins she'd been here), said she needed a squirt, and took off out the door. Never came back... had one last week start as a CSR, came 1 day, just never showed up again, no call, no reply to emails etc..  Gone. This was the 3rd that just never came back after 1-5 days (different job positions) in 12 mths.

instead for coming up with crap like OHS warning stickers  and trying to make everyone somehow accountable or some new rule or law that covers everyone  for one nobs mistake.
I agree that OHS has become a joke. But thats people getting carried away with their power, and need to continually look busy...
"WARNING - YOU MAY GET HURT IF YOU FALL DOWN THE STAIRS"... Well ****, who would have thought it?

If someones been trained to use a grinder, which I class as a fairly dangeous bit of machinery which needs training to use (dangerous in the wrong hands), why would you need this sign?

anyway, I think it ****in stinks cutting TAFE and schooling.

IMO if that's happening regularly there's something wrong with your recruitment process.  Either the person making the decision to hire isn't asking the right questions or aren't thorough enough to sense whether the person they are potentially going to hire is serious about the job.  The other reason that springs to mind is that the job description being "sold" to the employee, is nothing like what they actually end up doing.  Of course the final scenario is that if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys....

I agree there are lot's of people not really committed to work, and are time wasters, but from my experience if you have a thorough recruitment process and don't just hire the first person that walks through the door, and are also honest about the job on offer, then it's pretty easy to spot those people who are genuinely seeking work, interested in the job and are committed, to those that aren't.

probably true on all 3 (specially 3), but we do have plenty of people with 15-20yrs service here, although they are disappearing with regular cuts...
The CSR job is one that takes a "special" person.. They cop all the abuse from customers.. its a cut throat world.
