carpet in a Jayco

Has anyone actually carpeted a Jayco pop top before. I am not a big fan of lino especially in winter and in the morning and am thinking of using a marine type carpet.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Mate I'm sure you could do it and I think I have seen it in other threads. Personally just put a couple of mats in if you dont like the lino. Carpet IMO is just another thing you need to vaccuum.

I am going to give it a crack over the summer. I thought about the mats, but I have two kids who would be keener to use them as frisbees or weapons on each other!!!

Hey Paul, if I had spent the money on a new Swift I would get a good quality marine carpet and get the edges bound and then use some press studs to hold it down.  This is typically how they do the rear carpet on the back of premium boats like Rivieras and gives you a nice underfoot feel but also the versatility to simply pull it out and hose it clean.

The binding stops fraying and gives it a finished professional look, I'm sure you can get this done in heaps of places but I know the marine upholstery guys do it.

We have rubber backed carpet tiles in our Eagle & we love them, Reasonably easy to clean & hard wearing.

G'day Paul,
We've covered the floor in our Swan with the mats with the holes.
Haven't noticed it being too cold, the benefits of it are,
Sand and dirt doesn't seem to make it into your bedding.
Easy to wipe if liquids are spilled.
Easy to lift up and clean out after a trip.
Having kids we find this works great.

Hi Paul, hubby works in the floor covering industry so yes we have put caret in the bottom of our swan, except as its throwaway off cuts I tend to get hubby to cut in a new piece every time we go and just chuck the old one when it's grubby. This way I'm not concerned about it getting filthy or stinky. I love having the carpet in there, makes it easier to keep grass and dirt off the beds and lounges and keeps feet warmer as well as collecting a lot of sand when we are on the beach. I have thought about getting one edged and done properly but I spose for me having new pieces readily available it is a nice thought to just be able to chuck the old bit and get a new one

I agree Paul - it is cold underfoot!

I used some cheap mats we got from Ikea ($2 each) at the bed ends and sink, then a $10 heavy duty carpet mat from Bunnings up the middle section of the Hawk. These work well, and just jet taken out and shaken. I also put a towel on the lounge where DD cimbs into bed - same deal, take it out and shake it.

I like the sound of the carpet with bound edges and press studs - very versatile.

best thing i ever did was put carpet in, not much of a carpet layer so i got a heap of newspaper and made a template then put it upside down on a offcut from a carpet joint ($20) worked a treat
makes it a bit more warmer

We bought some carpet from bunnings, From memory it could be used indoors and out, around $45 pm, two years ago. Hubby did it him self, he used newspaper taped together to make a template then cut the carpet to shape, its fantastic, we take the van to the snow and adds a bit of extra insulation.
