I think the bigger message is don't get complacent.

The most concerning thing is that there wasn't any actual 'hacking' involved at all, just merely exploiting some rather gaping holes in Apple's and Amazon's privacy policy.

I dont find it funny at all, in fact the more we evolve the digital age, the more often this sort of thing can happen.
I think the bigger message is don't get complacent.
I agree, and getting back to my above comment - we seem to be evolving in the digital world where everything is linked so its not hard to loose your entire digital life

They're welcome to whatever they can find in my iCloud. I operate under the assumption that once they've broken in to it all, they'll realise how sad my life really is, go back to amazon and buy me something from my wishlist.

As the classic Dilbert strip explains, the only thing worse than having your furniture stolen is having some of it returned.

Cheers!

Sorry I do., I find it hilarious! Put it down to the Windaz V apple thing.. Apples - the untouchables.

Having all your eggs in 1 basket, is just asking for trouble. Having your iThis hooked to your iThat, and your iSomething and you can kill them all from one spot in one go?
So technology is not all its cracked up to be. :cup:

Digital life?

Then get back to reality and touch down on earth and go back a few years.
Keep a diary at home of your phone numbers, print out emails you need to keep along with your contacts list. People did it not so long ago when electronics started kicking in - I know I did. Even today for most people, your puter Shits itself your screwed. Same as this but this is all futuristic and technologically marvellous.

So what if you dont look all lite soy mocca latte' (warm but not hot) and trendy to your friends, but you can give them the finger when their technology dies in the arse and your 1600's book works.

A remote wipe feature with no real chance of recovery (this bloke got his Shit recovered because of who he is if I read the article correctly - Joe Blow aint got squat chance of getting support) is hairbrained at best, apart from being able to ring up and get someones password changed on the spot! That is dumbarse 101.

Relying on everything electronic is ****ing stupid as this proves. Even USB keys, SD cards, Remote drives, the works, they all have failings.
But relying on everything being linked like that too is just asking for trouble.

Again, I read it and its just iFAIL

I dont view it like that at all - remember the sony hack with the playstation? Could happen to any system.

A couple if years ago I was listening to an interview about online/computer security. Specifically in regards to banks/banking. The sadest part is the likes of banks dont talk to each other when they have security breaches as they dont want to admit that they have an issue - yet hackers are very quick to tell others and expose security flaws. Im sure the banks secrecy is similar in other major businesses. All Im saying is no one is immune to hackers, and people need to stay vigilant of there online security - which many get complacent with, so these sorts of stories are a good reminder to those that may let lapse how careful they are online.

Agree, nobody is immune and never will be, and it will get worse.

I used to be a member of a hacking group back in the day led Elite Hackers - it was a forum like this one to be honest. Very open, and you could read anything. The companies in their hordes that were hacked daily was amazing...

Wise man once said to me that the only secure computer is one thats not connected to anything else.

In all honesty, if people these days arent wise enough to know that you leave nothing on line that could ruin you, they never will. But you still hear of the people sending their lifeavings to Nigeria, I dont get it. ??? ??? ???

Sadly many companies are still sitting there with holes in them like Linda Lovelace.

still, iFail massively.

I do have to agree I did find a certain amount of satisfaction that it happened on Apple machines.  I do really get sick of the 'Apples don't get viruses', and 'Apple hardware doesn't crash' rubbish that gets sprouted by the fan boys.

Anyways, it is a good warning for others - be careful with your data.

I see your point in that regard. Im an apple user, but Im under no illusion that its safer than or more secure than any other system. It is interesting to see how apples own systems can be turned against them.

good to see the infallable apple fail. almost as funny as this
http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/08/06/sccm-task-sequence-blew-up-australias-commbank/

in regards to security, its so easy to get into to places these days, the staff of a organisation can actually assist.
They just dropped a couple of virus loaded USB drives in the carpark. staff pick them up and the first thing they do is stick it in their work pc and see whats on it.
simplicity is always the best
