It's time for a new set of boots for the wife's NM Pajero.

Had it down to the following 3 in LT265/75/16.
Maxxis AT700 / AT771
Bridgestone D694
Yokohama AT G012

Then came across these BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain's on the net.

They seem slightly less aggressive than the other 3, but I'm a fan of BF Goodrich. 3 sets of AT's on my Hilux, 90,000km from each set and only 1 puncture.

Can't find much about them on the net, other than their the same price as the Bridgestone's and Yokohama's.

I have a set of Maxxis AT-700's on my Paj and at 35k km they are getting a bit noisy on smooth bitumen, my father has Bridgestone D694's on his Paj and says they are very noisy also.

Apart from the noise I am very happy with the Maxxis and so far tread wear appears to be very accepteble. I am also interesred to hear how the BFG RT's perform.

Seems to be the general concensus with the D694's being noisy on these model Pajero's. Bad cabin acoustics perhaps?

I looked at the Maxxis as I haven't heard anything bad said about them, but I haven't heard any real glowing reports about them either...

Maybe it's the Yoko's or even the Pirelli's? Still want to find out more about these BFG's.

Massive overkill for the amount of offroad use it sees, noise, onroad performance and price.

Don't get me wrong, I love them as I said I've had 3 sets and in terms of wank factor they'd look great on the Paj (white writting out of course!).
Ad to the fact BFG are price gouging with the AT's and it seems very hit and miss in terms of supply. I'd hate to have to replace 1 tyre down the track only to find it almost impossible to get a replacement.

Valid point, supply on the BFGs is non-existent. Have you seen the Bridgestone 697s?

Be mindful that the D697 haven't been released for very long, so any reviews and feedback kicking around are probably for near new tyres. I've found most new tyres start out fairly quiet, particularly against the old worn out and noisy tyres they've just replaced, but as they wear they become noisy.

That being said, because the increase in tyre noise is progressive as the tyre wears, most people won't notice or realise they've gotten louder. It's only when a new set is fitted, you realise how loud the old tyres actually were at the end of their life!

I've found most modern BFG's to be softer than the old stuff, so they wear quicker - but that usually means they grip better.
I agree with BFG AT's being well overpriced.

I've always had good luck with Goodyears. Like a Goodyear Duratrac... Plenty of top reports on several forums on them for longevity. Available from USA on Tirerack too.

or Dick Cepek FC2's which AJ on here ran with success on long klms. I run them on the trailer now.

All this discussion about wide tyres and the like, they must be good for bitumen, which I am very rarely on. I run split rims, with Michelin XZY3's on the rims, and have yet to have a problem. I do not alter my pressure all that much, as I don't wish to have my tyre walls closer to sharp rocks and the like, and running my tyres mostly at about 35 lbs, I do not get too concerned about corrugations.
Just my opinion, as I reckon the wider the tyre, the greater the chance of picking up a puncture when it gets really rough.

Think I'll take the gamble on the D697LT's. $275 fitted and balanced with a $100 Caltex fuel card, so $250 a tyre sort of.

If all my driving was on dirt like you I'd share your thoughts. My Hilux came with splities, but they looked crap and the Dunlop Super Grippers on them were deadly on bitumen and outright dangerous in the wet. I renamed them Super Slippers and ended up fitting at set of Prado GLX rims and 245/75/16 BFG AT's.
However fixing a flat with a split rim is soooo much easier.

Gotta hate buying tyres! I had Bridgestones. They were good,got 70 thou outa them. Replaced them with Maxxis 751,s. Bit noisy at first but seem to be ok now, plus i think they were 168$ each. Woulda liked more bridgies but $$$$

Yes, my bad. I constantly forget that most people would have the opposite figures to what I have. We went through the vehicle log books, and with 206k on the clock, it worked out to about 8k of that on bitumen, the other 198k on dirt, roks and sand. Agreed, I would not touch Dunlop road slippers with a barge pole, they are useless as tyres, mbut damned good on the front of bull catchers though. I have yet top find a really good quality mud tyre that comes in a narrow tyre, I would appreciate it if you had knowledge of any good narrow tyres that would go on split rims, with heavy mud treads.

Got some quotes today from a Beaurepairs outlet, 265/75/16 LT. Goodyear Duratrac and Hankook Dynapro MT. $455each!!!!!!!!!!! Ouch. Guess he wanted to go home early...

Beauys seem to do this, and I bet they lose 1000's of customers due to it.

Beauys Price match... so give them some bullShit price around 340 and they will match it.

I saw those last Sunday, problem is I'm in Vic.
I don't think the price is reasonable though.
Ad says he paid $1180, which would have been fitted and balanced. He wants $1000 and you still have to have them fitted and balanced! That alone is probably $20-$30 a tyre...

Yep gotta agree there just replaced My AT's after 3 years and 75,000k and i recon i would have go another 10k out of them but what are tax returns for. As for supply i had no problem with a Michlin dealer in Perth walked in Monday ad he said come back in the arvo as he just had to duck over to the warehouse to get some fitted that arvo for 300 each and a case of beer

I have had 2 sets of 285x75x16" BFG AT Ko's and both lasted 85,000kms they were still legal on road an I could have squeezed another 5-10k km out of them... But they look old....

I now have a set of MT ATZ 4 Ribs not happy with these wish I stuck with the BFG's - one got a slight cut on the side and one day on a Canberra road went down and could not be repaired, so I am down to 4 and a BFG AT spare... They corner like Shit (45psi might have something to do with that) , are noisy and seem to be wearing fairly quickly, done about 40,000kms on them so far... I did take them simpson desert driving and they have been to fraser island and worked well there,,, but I am just a little uneasy that they will let me down at any minute...

I am already researching my next set and so far 305x70x16" BFG AT's.... but I dare say that will change as the time gets closer...

2 1/2 week wait on the D697's so I've gone for the D694LT's.
$270ea plus $45 for an alignment.
also get a $100 Caltex fuel card!

Finally after 3 1/2 years I should be able to use the Paj for it's intended purpose!

Previous owner replaced the worn Cooper ST's with Maxxis HT's for the RWC. I ended buying it with no RWC...
The better half refused to spend the coin on better tyres when it had brand new tyres already. The damn thing was like a dog on lino on anything other than bitumen.

It's amazing how you can speed up the tyre wear process when you start neglecting wheel alignments

So far I've driven about 50k's on freeways. Noise is noticeable, but very minimal. Remembering I've gone from near bald HT's to new AT's.
The speedo is finally correct! According to the GPS it's within 1km.
Power wise, it's not a punchy off the mark, but the difference is minimal.
Economy? it's always rubbish when I drive it

(hey, I'm used to an aspirated diesel Hilux)
The bigger tyres finally give the car some proportion. It has a 2in lift kit and it never looked right with 31in HT's.

As for the BFG RT's. The tyre bloke (BJ's) has heard no feedback on these yet, but has fitted them to a few 4by's that are destined for blacktop use only. Said for the same money he would take Duellers over them any day, or if you really want BFG's, spend the extra and get the AT's.
