How and what to book for the Fraser Island trip
« on: April 28, 2012, 10:02:58 AM »
Hi All,

You are now able to book your camping and vehicle permits with DERM.

Boo Boo and I have booked our camping site and beach permits for the 4x4 so we are ready to go ..... well we will be after we get all our gear ready ;D

General info about booking a camp site with DERM (They do have a Family rate to check to see if it's applicable to you)
http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks_and_forests/activities_in_parks_and_forests/camping/camping_bookings.html

There are three ways to book :-
Over the counter.
Over the phone - 13 QGOV (13 74 68)
Over the net - https://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gds/

The details you will need to know
Location : Fraser Island (Great Sandy National Park)
Campground : Beach camping - Fraser Island

Fill the rest of the details in as best suits your situation.

Don't forget you will also need a VAP Vehicle Access Permit.

One last thing if you are doing it over the net you will either need to laminate or put your printed camping tag in to a ziplock back to protect it from the weather. These tags are supposed to be attached to your tent / displayed at all times (as is your VAP on your vehicle ).

So get booking and don't forget to let us know when you're done 8)

Thanks
yogi

For people wanting to go to Fraser through Inskip Point, If you want you can get all your permits and barge ticket through the Manta Ray office, on the left as you enter Rainbow township from Gympie..Or ring them and confirm your details and pay by card  and they will send them to you.
.Ohh and those getting there via Tewantin / Teewah beach will need a permit for that section for the day you travel or get a Fraser Multi access permit  ..

 http://mantarayfraserislandbarge.com.au/
We have done this for the past few years without problems, allow a few days for postage .. Our Permits and ticket arrived last week Woo Hoo  !!! Fraser here we come, just on 6 weeks to go for us ....

Will do no problems at all.
.Ohh and for first timers, if you can budget it in spare aprox $70 pp for a flight off the beach and over the Island with Fraser Air,It will add a whole new WOW factor to your trip.
Just approach the pilots and organize the flight, and please be aware of the aircraft taking off and landing areas, they cant stop like we can .. ..
Wasnt sure where to put this, found it on the tube, thought the Swaggeres might like veiw of what the Island was like 50 odd years ago, check out the Maheno.. back then !!!

Me and yogi booked the plane just for us and it was an unforgettable experience .... once in a life time stuff. Taking off and landing on a beach at the mouth of Eli creek was just simply amazing. You will get to see parts of the Island you will never be able to see any other way. Plus you will get to see just how big and beautiful Fraser is

Boo Boo

PS(When we did it it was $75 each minimum of 4 people and CASH only)

Thanks Yogi,
Just a dumb question, When we book the vehicle when ticking the type of camping structure are we a "campervan" or a "trailer or tent".
cheers
