New camper Question
« on: April 19, 2012, 04:36:17 PM »
Hi all Im about to purchase a new camper Ive narrowed it down to a camel beachcomber. But I cant decide if I want the walk up (plus ) option I am thinking with 3 small kids it would be good, however the price is starting to get up there.

Can people share there opinion on this model camper, and pros cons opinions on the walk up model.

Or other models also.

any advice appreciated

Thanks,

I have the camel bushman plus, which is the latest walk up option. Also have 3 kids. My tent is the 10ft size and it's perfect for us. Easy main tent set up, can do it myself in minutes (I'm a 5ft 3 female) and it's roomy enough for the 3 beds.
Kitchen is fab, quality great, can't recommend it enough!!!

Thanks Xoe01 thats good to hear.

Do you do much offroad with yours and do you find that it holds up allright and is the extra trailer length an issue.

The thing with the walk up models is no ladder so getting into the beds is a lot easier, and our kids like to climb up in the morning so a bit safer plus that little extra room and space for storage...it never goes astray

jh26,

Exactly what Xoe01 said ^^^^ (except I'm a 5'10 male  ;D )

Have not found a bad thing about the walk up option.  Extra length on the draw bar has never been a problem.

Have you been able to see the walk up model and non walk up model side by side?  That extra room in the tent is a God send with the kids.  We can get 3 stretcher beds in it for our 3 and still not feel cramped for room.

Get it, you'll never look back!!!  Besides it's only money and you can't take it with you... and the banks have got heaps of it to hand out.  ;D

Haven't done much off roading in it yet, but it should be more than tough enough.
I'll also add that the walk up storage area is an excellent separate place to store stuff too, like our porta loo & awnings.

I know you have your eye on a camel but what about a Trackabout extenda , I will agree with others that the walk up models are the way to go. After market no one really wants a standard camper anymore

Thanks to all replies the info is greatly appreciated,

Ozki the reason I want the camel is value for money, a trackabout would be nice but at an extra $10000 it is out of my budget I'm afraid.

while i like the idea of the walk up campers, i think the extra length is a hinderance in tight bush scenarios...
I was on some tracks on the weekend and i would have struggles with my camper(All Terrain) let alone something that is an extra 450mm longer
