I made a portable frame and thought it was a good idea but they are VERY heavy once in a heavy enough frame, and add another 5-10kg kg suitable leads. Many underestimate the leads required to move 300 Amps 5+ metres.
Ive now got a fixed front mount like all the others
Overall they are big and heavy but can do things a fixed front mount cant.

 :'(

the 'manual' hand winch is looking like a (bad) only choice now, as all reports are looking a bit negative for the lighter weight 4WD's and a suitable 12v winch

I agree with the 'bad' choice. Even though your body will hate you while using it, at least you will get out from being stuck, and in any direction. Don't forget to use a snatch block to cut down on some of the effort, and extra shear pins (nothing like having the vehicle halfway out and you snap the pins).

Oh, and send in some shots of you using it. ;D

That will be a long wait I hope
will have to get one just for the extra 'confidence' I'm sure it will offer  ;D ;D

With all the extra 'stuff' you need to take away on tricky 4x4 track trips I will need to tow a small trailer now  :'(
