Folding Boat Trailers

G''day all.
         A question to fellow swaggers with roof top tinnies.
      I have a Quinnie 340 Traveller that goes on top of our Adventure camper trailer,and an 8 hp Johno that sits on a bracket up front of the camper. I also purchased a folding Oceanic boat trailer that the tinny usually sits on at home so that I can use it around Perth without the camper trailer.
   The idea of the fold-up trailer is obviously to carry it with you while travelling, and then assemble it prior transporting the dingy to the water from where you are camped. So far on my travels in West Oz, when I've taken the tinny with us I've always camped close enough to the water not to need the trailer at all. Just take it off the camper,pop it in the drink and then set-up camp not too far away. Then leave the boat in the water/on shore until it's time to pack up.
     So my question is to those who have travelled around Oz with a tinny on top of the car or camper. Are there many places I'm likely to encounter where I'll have to transport my dingy a reasonable distance to and from somewhere I can launch a boat ? ie Is a folding boat trailer really needed or is it just going to be extra weight I'm going to have to cart around.
     I'm hoping to fish a little around the Eyre Peninsular, then mainly through the territory during the run-off, and some rivers and impoundments in QLD.
      Your thoughts would be appreciated

Hi Darryl,

Provided that you are OK with weight - a few GVM threads happeing right now] I would take the trailer. While many places are OK to leave the boat etc as they are within sight, many are not.

At this time most dams in QLD are full, so you won't need to go too far, it's still a pain in the a$#@ to have to take/put in everything from the boat each time you want to fish.

Fishing in most rivers etc will require you to travel to a ramp to put the boat in - not sure if the trailer is registered but it should be if travelling on public roads.

We rarely take our tinny [wife not keen on fishing] but when we do, I have a set of transporter wheels that clamp onto the side of the boat, nicely balanced it is easy to move the boat short distances to & from the water's edge.

We just bought a 3.7 tinnie and a custom boat loader now it come with a almac trailer  we don,t use it much at the moment because i have a bigger trailer that we use to go to the local Dam  and crabbing over the coast , but we see people up the dam who have fold up trailers and commute to the dam the camp ground is about 5 km away now i reckin if you had to put the boat on the roof of the car everytime, put life jackets fishing gear fuel tank and all the rest in the car  it would be a pain in the *&^% so i think a trailer travelling would be great we only just getting a camper so have not used the trailer yet but intend to take it when taking the boat travelling .

                    Crikey,we must be an honest mob over here in the west ! Just normally launch the boat and leave it in the water for the duration of the trip, usually just taking the sounder and fishing gear out at the end of the day.
    Trailer is licenced so no worries taking it on the road. Might have to check that GVM  though:

Yep mate, can't trust those Qlder's or Mexicans - LOLOLOL  Only kidding - There are just as many potential theifs in NSW, if not more than the other states.
