« on: February 01, 2012, 07:47:24 PM »
Wanting to fit a snorkel to my 80
Its a 4.5 Petrol and LPG
Has anyone done this and how does it run
Ive heard you need to fit a balance tube to one side of the gas mixer and the air filter
is this right

I put a snorkel on my 100 series 4.5L which is on LPG and works without a problem, didnt need the extra tube you mentioned.  I think the working of the 100 would be the same as the 80.

I had a snorkel on my 1FZ-FE which also had LPG.

It used to surge a bit around 2500rpm - put the snorkel on as well as the balance pipe and it cured most of that. Put the snorkel head on backwards and it drove like a dream on petrol and LPG

Just plumbed a fitting into the tube of the snorkel (inside the guard from memory) and then ran the hose/pipe over to the mixer.

I had a look last night but couldn't find a pic of the install in my photobucket account......sorry

Another option to turning the snorkel head around, is to fit a Donaldson pre-cleaner.  Did that on the missus' Prado with the V6.

A little bit off topic, but a mate of mine with a common rail 3.0 Patrol with a snorkel has turned his snorkel head around and is managing to get better fuel consumption. Apparently something to do with the computer not liking the ram air effect that the snorkel produces. Maybe food for thought for those with CRD engines.

By the way my 1fz does not have have a snorkel but the balance tube in question was fitted when the LPG was installed as a part of the standard LPG install.
