Hanging a Decorative Handsaw

Hi all…

We got my father a decorative handsaw for Christmas, and I was just wondering if anyone has actually hung one of these before?

Looking for tips on the best way to hang it, what hooks you used, etc…

Any help much appreciated.  Don’t want to wreck it…

Most of the older panel saws had a hole in the tip. A screw through there and a hook at the handle is where I would start.

You can buy round ones with a countersunk hole in the middle that would work great

We use them all the time. One project I used $4k of them for a hidden pelmet in the ceiling so there were no screws showing for removal. The rare earth ones are great.

Is it being displayed inside or outside, if outside there is an item called a brick clip, bought online, just type it into Google, various sizes and shapes, just clips into the mortar joint of brickwork. I have old tools hanging on an external brick wall and photo canvases on an internal brick wall.. you can paint them if they are too obtrusive.

got plenty of those, but they are generally attached to a metal frame... hard to cut and separate without damaging the magnet (they are fragile)... i have tried that before...

I have some of my grandfathers tools, saw, pitchfork, shovel, shears etc, well worn, the blade on the shovel is about 1/2 normal length thru wear

My dad when he moved from Sydney just left all his old tools and Shit in the garage... I nearly died when I found out

Looks like a Henry Disston. If it is it’s worth money to a tradesman or a collector. Lots of life left in it too.

I recently had new ceilings installed in a living room followed by my completely redecorating it, so I am not keen on putting big holes in the gyprock walls for wall mates, then repairing the same in the future, if pictures/hangings/paintings are moved around. An artist friend had her whole main living area fitted with aluminium extrusion picture rails so I have been investigating the various systems. The cheapest are this mob https://www.fxhangingsystems.com.au/all-products. But you can get some really interesting alternative products. You can get clear nylon, chain, s/steel hanging wires, hang by a single wire ... Prices I have seen range from ~$50 to $80/2m when all the fixings end stops and hanging wires are included.
