Jockey Wheel Brands-Heavy Duty/Extra lenght
« on: January 13, 2012, 09:00:16 AM »
Looking at replacing my jockey wheel. The current one is only just long enough on level ground, when there is a bit of a dip it just isn't long enough.
Also it dosen't feel all that stable, probably because it is at its max height most of the time.
So looking for a good quality, heavy duty, longer than standard, fold up type.
Anyone have ideas on brands to check out. We are very limited in Tassie, most shops on carry the basic cheap ones.

Thanks
Trevor

There was an Alco one on my camper when I purchased it and I had the same issue, as well as bending the wheel supports on some grass when trying to move it.

I bought an ARK 500kg rated one and it has worked a treat - I find the camper easier to manouvre around and is solid as a rock.  I also put a thick block of wood under my jockey wheel just to get that extra little bit of height which helps.

If you get on the Manutec website, they sell the jockey wheel without the support plate welded on. That way you can work out what the ideal height for your setup would be and then get the support plate welded on. I did this when I needed to match the jockey wheel on the camprite to the 5" lift I had in the trol. Worked well anmd definately much more stable than having the jockey wheel at full height.

Thanks for the replies. Have been onto the ARK and Manutec sites to have a look. Both look interesting. Very imprested with the amount of detail in the Manutec site.
I like the look of the extra heavy duty Manutec. As I already have a swivel bracket I might look at cutting of the existing wheel and welding one of these on.
Again thanks for the sites and ideas.
