Emptying porta pottie into drop toilet

I would agree, the council or other has provided the drop toilets, if they say don't empty porta potties in them then why try to find excuses to do it. I'm sure you would like the job of trying to pump them out when they go wrong.

Surely you can plane your trip a little to be able to use dump points, if your porta potti is full it is your problem don't make it someone else's or am I being to critical?

Same with rubbish, if the bins full just don't bag it and leave it on the ground take it with you and I don't even what to start on about toilet paper and s$%t everywhere.

That's my rant for the day.

sounds like a great idea to plan to use dump points.... but what do you do when like at Straddie this year at Xmas time, the one and only dump point on the island was full and taped up closed for days, and people are staying there for more then a week after that happens?
Do you dig a hole and bury it which isn't great for the environment either, or if you have the right gear in your toilet, do you empty it in the pit toilet? I would hate to see how many of the people camped on Straddie emptied theirs during that time period, pretty much all would have been using chemicals not suitable for a pit toilet.

Not that I am aware of..

The Thetford Blue is for normal dump points and the Green is for septic systems... no mention of long drops......

Even though the missus only uses the porta potti for no1's, how hard is it to use the drop toilet or whatever if there is one there. If at a campground with no loos, grab the shovel and dig a hole....somewhere like Fraser etc, easy digging , so no excuse to not dig a very deep hole, way up past high tide mark..

For the record, Fraser has numerous dump points. Crapping in the sand up there and D.I. should be banned due to the numbers of campers.

i'd be happy with that, the sooner the better I reckon too...imagine what the state of those places are like like after peak holiday periods.

Crapping in the sand is a bit different to digging a deep hole.....but policing how deep to dig a hole would be impossible.

Supply more dunnies.....only way to solve the problem.

You dig a metre you hit the water table. What you crap yesterday runs down the beach a day later. The last big E. coli issue was about 2006 when sand spears were banned and big areas were shut. Yes, either supply more toilets or make portaloos compulsory. The dump points are already there.

sadly there's to many campers out there with weak stomachs that whinge about emptying portaloos,  they should be compulsory in high visitor areas like Fraser and DI....it's not hard for people in this day and age to take responsibility for their own toiletry needs, just many don't like the idea of doing it.

Yes it is the same brand as what Kimberley use (Natures Head). Kimberley made me aware of compost toilets which sparked my interest and a heap of online research gave me the confidence to give it a crack. After all the research I couldn't find a better quality unit that would suit the space and application. It is designed so when used in a shower recess that the water won't go in and the seat stays dry and size is very small.

When I say no smell I really mean it. The three of us (2A 1C) used it for four days and I could stick my head in the bowl with flap open with no offensive odour. Just popped my head in again tonight to verify my response to you after a day of the camper being locked up and again no difference.

So some of the high level points
- Sewerage is the result of mixing 1's & 2's. Keep them separate and you are a large way there.
- 1's are basically sterile for up to 48hrs. Empty the 1's every day or other day and you can tip it over established trees (supposedly good for them), tip it down the drain whatever. We didn't seem to have any odour from this either but a teaspoon of sugar into the 1's tank sorts that if you do.
- The real nastys in 2's will die of in between 6-8 hours. So just wait half a day or more from last use before emptying. You should get your hands dirty when emptying though. No liquid sewerage to splash around as it sloshes out at the dump point!
- 2's go into the compost which starts life as a $2 from bunnings coir peat brick mixed with 3L of water. This will last in excess of 80 'motions'. So you only empty every 5-6 weeks when using full time or for us I am anticipating about 4 months.
- The longer you leave the compost the more it breaks down so keeping longer isn't a bad thing.
- When you empty it you can put over the garden (not eating plants advised) or put it in a rubbish bag and into any bin which will be my preferred option. You can also just dig a hole and bury it if in the bush though I can't see why you would do that as it doesn't take much forward planning to empty before going offline for an extended period. I am not lucky enough to be away from work for anywhere near as long as it will last.
- No flushing! Just a couple of turns of the handle after use and no water used except for the initial 3L when starting a new compost.
