Jockey wheel question - ratchet type - move jayco swan outback
« on: December 31, 2011, 11:20:57 AM »
Hi everyone had to move the camper around in the back yard today it's quite a tight grassed area dad hurt his back helping me he is recovering now. Looking at getting a ratchet jockey wheel so can do it myself looks like most people like the alko ratchet jockey wheel has anyone tried them on a jayco in the grass ? It pretty flat but need the screw it around then push it back only moving it a few meters but it has to be precise no room for car to do it...

Any advise appreciated .... !

That type of gear might have troble on grass as the traction is mostly due to the weight on the wheel & its grip to the ground. Go see if you can get a demo of the gear
You can go your own way . Treg Up & Make Dust

Might work if you used several sheets of plyboard to provide a better surface and get traction.
If I camp where the soil is not hard I put a plyboard sheet 300mm x 400mm under the jockey wheel. Makes it easier to move when I hook back up the trigg coupling.

Thanks for the advise bought one today at the camping shop today got it for 140 on special I was pretty happy ... Used the plywood trick and moved it around the yard nicely.. Will attach the second jockey wheel holder as the wheel is quite big and it might not wind low enough for the car it's good to be able to us the ratchet arm to steer the jockey wheel as well....  Now I can move the camper by myself ....

I brought one from Repco, before Christmas 10” solid wheel $99 on sale, under half price.
