Problem with tent poles
« on: November 07, 2011, 09:06:43 PM »
Has anyone had problems with adding gas struts to assist with opening the tent section of your camper?Went to pick up the new camper today ,everything was going great until we closed it up.The tent bows(I think that's what it called)bent under the pressure of the gas struts.Seller was great about it and said he would replace no charge but didn't want to reinstall the gas struts as he was worried that this would happen from the start.I,d be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem as it seems a pretty standard mod.

No issues with mine ... sounds like the pressure was too high?  They should only be there to 'help' not provide the only way of putting it up ...

I have struts on mine , but the tent bows are square section which I believe are a little stronger.

Same,
Too high in the strut force. I have an Austrack with 2 x 500n struts mounted almost parallel to the tent bow, but a different pivot location. The strut wants to extend and in doing so pushes the bow arouns its radius.
I have also sleeved the tent bow with some pipe so the load area is spread out.
I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.
