Problem is Bruce, you won't necessarily see any issues. While ever unqualified people design and fabricate these sort of components and naively use substandard materials we will always see this sort of thing and you and I won't probably catch it between its visible start and its disastrous end

That certainly is worth a look. I don't know much about Xtrail campers except that they (like just about everybody else) claim to be Australian made, but that swing arm looks to me to be a built-down-to-a-price Chinese component - as many use. There's plenty of comments there about the quality of the metallurgy, and we'll never know the truth, but I do get left thinking that the problem may never have occurred if it had been a Gaffa or Vehicle Components suspension.

Robin Miller is/was a member here I wonder why they never posted it here.
I don't recall anyone having any problems with Xtrail campers before and now suddenly there 2 with broken stub axles on the same forum. It just seems to me like every time a camper with a chinese tent has a failure someone has had a cousins mates brother have the same problem and it always is questioned on the origin of the componentry.If a Kimberly/AORC/Lifestyle etc had the same problem would we jump to the same conclusion, or just blame a faulty stub axle and move on.
Just thinking aloud as I've never heard of any problems before.

Lots of manufacturers have failures and occasional problems, the interesting thing is how they deal with them (there was a recent one here of a similar failure on a Pioneer i think, and the response from the manufacturer was pretty ordinary apparently).  You'd hope that Xtrail will make good with repairs, and some sort of response about how they will ensure it won't happen again.  They have a pretty good name on the forum, I hope that they want to protect it.

I think it's more interesting that they have them in the first place. It must be obvious to everybody in the current race to the bottom with prices that quality is suffering wherever people think they can get away with it. What would you rather have - the worst camper with the best warranty backup, or the best camper with nothing go wrong?

I'm regularly bemused by people saying their (insert Chinese import here) has been fine except for (insert list of a dozen minor failures here) which the importer fixed, all under warranty. WTF? I'd rather be camping.

The OP is a member here - in one of his posts there's a touch of deja vu: "We had someone show up with one of those chinese bikes at Talbotville boxing day, the excitment of the new Xmas present didn't last till the end of the day - frame breakage."

Hi Guys

Suffered a major internet failure just after posting that thread so been out of action - back on line via free Macdonalds service (very slow).

The Xtrail bush weld fix got the trailer home ok and saving the friends holiday , its seems like from other replies to that thread that my mate was seriously lucky that he was driving very slowly when the failure occurred.
