« on: October 31, 2011, 10:23:32 AM »
My name is Natalie and i'm new this site and have been using over the past couple of days to research camper trailers. My partner, Gav and I are doing a 12 month Australian trip and looking at camper trailers to suit our needs...and wow am i confused. We are travelling with two dogs just to make it a little more interesting...Looking forward to chatting about options, ideas, learnings and challenges people have faced.

Welcome Nat and Gav.

Where abouts are you located and what do you plan to tow your camper with?

Prepare yourself to get bombarded with suggestions on what sort of camper is best.  Maybe pick out a few that you think suit, and then ask the brains trust on here about those particular brands and/or models.

Hey there GunnaDo,
Thanks for the heads up. We are located in Melbourne. Looking at a hardfloor camper as we will have the dogs in that section during the night so the hard floor will be protected for the dogs.... I've been checking Ebay and seen a few, http://www.enztrading.com.au, pinnacles, Mars campers ect. however not sure on their quality. we are going to have a look at some of them today.

We are taking an old school 1958 mainline ute on the road, not planing on doing much offroad stuff or 4w4. Just nice cursing around this beautiful country

Seeing pics of that ute just reminded me of the documentary "Northern Safari", with the '48 Buik.   LOL.

Great looking ute by the way.  :cup:

went to check out enztrailers today. wasn't impressed. quite cheaply made we thought.
found a couple for sale on gumtree which look good.
Thinking we'll go to the bendigo show and see what we can find.

I think you need a vintage teardrop to complete the package;

My alternative to cheap import trailers;

Hey dazzle,
we have actually bought a teardrop. It is really cool, however we are faced with some problems.
ONE: No storage for water tank, gas tanks, jerry cans ect. TWO: We are taking two big dogs with us and need them enclosed for the night, so we will need a tent that is fully attached to the teardrop, weather and bug proof and THREE: the kitchen set up isn't great so we'd need to change it ...oh and FOUR: not much shade. plus i'm sure there are other things we haven't thought about yet...

For a 12 month trip a camper trailer is looking like a good option...UNLESS.....other people have any suggestions thoughts ideas to help us with this problem....

Hi Nat, welcome to the forum :) Great ute!  I'm not sure on the budget but if you are travelling in it for a year, perhaps a pop-top which will allow you to carry stuff more setup for longer?  Else make sure you get a good storage system like the drifta kitchen/boxes to save time and energy :)  Jealous about the 12 month trip too! :D Good work!
