Buying camper interstate
« on: November 28, 2011, 06:51:55 PM »
Many campers we have seen and can afford are interstate.  Have any My Swaggers bought sight unseen or from interstate and  if so how did you go about it?  We have seen camper four or five hours north of Brisbane and we are in Melbourne that we are interested in and are trying to figure out how to do it?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers John

I bought my last camper over the internet from Victoria. The seller had lots of good photos and I had done my research. I paid a minimal deposit and we met up half way to exchange a cmaper for the balance. It was terrific.

So, ask for lots of photos, all angles. You might even ask if any other local swaggers would mind running their eye over it for you, it's not uncommon for members to help others.

If you get a good report back, you can line up transport, or take a chance and fly up. For less than $500 you can do your own final inspection.

I also bought my current camper from interstate. It was from Disco Emu (Criag) off the forum here. I chatted over the phone then paid the deposit. He also emailed me many additional images of the camper before I drove up to Sydney to pick it up. Upon arrival early on the saturday morning he showed me over the camper and it was exactly as he described.

I handed over the cabbage and headed back to Vic.

Just try and get as many images as possible of tings like the canvas, zips ect not just the trailer.

Cheers
Rich

qlddsl - the camper is secondhand aussie swag - looking at the camper is not the issue, it is more the logistics of how to do a deal from the other end of the earth from it!

bigjules - seller has lots of pictures and we have done lots of research and what appears in the pictures looks the goods and we think price is realistic.  Like the idea of meeting half way.  We have not yet approached the seller as we thought it might be too hard to arrange.

Both your info has helped so we will ring seller and see what transpires and will keep you posted!  Cheers John

Similar experience as above, done my research and found a cheap camper interstate. Got lots of good photo's sent down and was lucky enough to have a forum member run an eye over it, before we went any further. Paid a small deposit and meet at an agreed location, made an inspection our selves and once happy paid the balance by bank cheque and come home with the camper.
Before purchase check with Vic roads at both ends to be sure to be sure, probably sounds funny but you don't want to end up buying something that has been on the wright off list, as you may not get it rego'd in an other state. Some thing I became aware during our purchase of ours.
