South West WA Camping Spots
« on: November 13, 2011, 10:59:08 AM »
We've just started planning our 2 month trip to Western Australia (South-Western region) in March/April 2012.
We're looking at a couple of places to stay for a few nights and was curious about the following parks and wondered if anyone has stayed at them before and what they thought:

Warren Way Caravan Park

Fonty's Pool & Caravan Park - Manjimup

The majority of our trip will be free camping so if you know of any good spots let us know.

Well I haven't stayed at either but pass the Warren Way regularly and never heard a bad report.
Fonty's I have visited a couple of times and it always looks neat and has water there )Hence the Pool in the name  ;D)

Fonty's is a bit further out of town so should be little road noise, Warren Way is on the Highway 1.

Heartbreak trail is a few km from Pemberton on the Warren River not free but NP cheap, stayed a few times.

At the back of Big Brook Dam also near Pemberton there is another camp area by NP but never stayed there.

Coalmine Beach in Walpole is good - have stayed there three times and close to the water and lots of other sightseeing places.

Cheers Mike

If looking around Margaret River I would recommend Big Valley campground (its a CV park farm), I have done a report on it somewhere here so a search will find it.

Another thumbs up for Drafty's camp on the Heartbreak trail.  If you want to stick with bush/NP type camping then Canebrake pool out of Margaret river, also search Sues Bridge.  Good resource here, it is a listing of all DEC campgrounds:

Thanks again.

The Pemberton Caravan park is quite nice.

We live in Nannup ;D there is a place called Willow Springs not far from here which is on Gold Gully Road, good for free camping for overnighters etc. Gold Gully road connects to the main road that goes to Bridgetown. Willow Springs is near the Bibblumun walking track.
If you do come down Nannup way then there is also Burrubup Pool with campgrounds near it, and Workmans Pool. It's either free or a very small fee possibly. You know what it's like when you live somewhere you don't tend to do the touristy stuff as much as you should! Burrubup pool gets pretty popular during the summer months obviously.
