Hi all, this is a great site, heaps of tips and pics.  I am heading to Moreton Is in 2 weeks with four mates to fish and have a small break.  It will be the first time I have towed a trailer in sand behind the 80 series cruiser.  Its a 8x4 and i upgraded the wheels and axles (cruiser of course) - any tips on packing or towing i should be weary about?

Hi monahanajj and welcome to MySwag,

Fantastic place Moreton Island, you will have a great time.

Track conditions over there vary between easy and moderate, your 80 will do it easy, just remember to lower tyre pressures. Start with 22psi in rear and 20psi in the front, if you still find it's a bit of a battle, drop down to 18psi and further if the need arises...don't forget to do the same with the trailer.

If possible, pack the trailer with heaviest items over the axle and distribute the lighter stuff evenly across the rest of the trailer to keep it well balanced.

And above all have a great time and hope you catch some fish.

Hi monahanajj Welcome to MySwag.

A few tips I have is to let your tyres down as soon as you can on the barge before you go relax for the trip over. Nothing worse than not being prepared once they drop the ramp on the beach :-[

And depending on where your drop off point is, another thing to consider is the tide times, especially if your drop off point is Tangalooma. At high tide theres not alot of beach to drive on for the short trip to the entrance of the middle road track. We've been caught out twice now and had to do a quick dash through a bit of water to get to the entrance.

Have a good time and take plenty of photo's, its a beautiful place.

Thanks BNK - I should be able to spare some time in the evening round the fire if there is some gps signal; - if not, it can wait.

I checked the tide it will be at about 1/4 and rising so there wont be much mucking around - going to pitch tent on ocean beach side...

Giving the cruiser a service and a once over this weekend ready...best repack the trailer bearings too...
