Camping at Christmas - Near Kew / Laurieton NSW
« on: August 01, 2011, 09:28:17 PM »
Christmas isn't far away, will be here before we know it.  SWMBO wants to visit family around Kendall, Kew, Laurieton NSW.  Rather than stay with them we thought we may take the CT and go camping for a week or two but be close by so we can visit...

I have done lots of searching, not found much info as yet.  Does anyone know of camping places around there?  We much prefer bush camping to campgrounds however campgrounds could be the go this time.  We also have two dogs that will be with us just to throw a spanner in the works but they are well behaved and can be kept on a leash if required while we are in a campground.

Looking forward to seeing some recommendations!

G'day Dave

I know you are looking at camp grounds etc however the wife and I went via Laurieton/Dunbogan to view holiday parks on the way home last weekend. The two at Dunbogan are sh!thouse and the Big4 Bonny Hills is ok. I had a view of staying at Dunbogan given the location and websites...glad I checked them in person before booking.

I am sure others will be along to comment on nearby camp grounds....

I know the ones you are talking about Racer, don't really want to go there, we just remembered a caravan park at Diamond Head we think it is called and it is nicer but I don't know about dogs there, hoping to hear of something more suited for us though...

Hi Fivid,

Diamond Head, Kylies etc. are in the National Park so no dogs allowed, but Coopernook State Forest 30klms. south of
Kew is a free camp and dog friendly. It is 20klms. from Harrington where there are dog friendly beaches.
There is an article about Coopernook S.F. at traveldogsaustralia.com/coopernook. No showers, flush toilet and bring your own water, have driven past and it`s a really nice area.

There is also the Colonial Leisure Village on the way into Harrington, mainly residential but has a pet friendly camping area and it wasn`t busy last Christmas. Hasn`t got all the bells and whistles that the Big4 in Harrington has.

Cheers, Robyn.
