Another tyre Question

I am in the market for a new set of tyres for our Kimberly etc trip next year.
The local tyre guy recommended Kumho AT 51.
Has anyone had any experience with these? The tyre guy reckoned that they were better value than the BF. I had almost made up my mind  but the Kumho is about $100 cheaper .
The Kumho are better on the tar and equal to the BF offroad he said .

Have you looked at the Kelly Safari TSR tyres? I snaffled a set of 5 at a shade over $300 each (usually $370ish). They are an aggressive AT from Greenball in the U.S., and out of the same factory as Goodyears apparently.

I have a set of the Kumho KL78 on my Colorado. Great tyre both on and off road, grip well on wet roads. So far done nearly 10,000 kms and no dramas,
I paid $205 per tyre 265/75/16 from Kmart tyre.

I recently bought the Hankook AT Dynapros.  You can get 265/70r16's at Jax for about $210 ea fitted.  I opted for the light truck option with stronger side wall and load for a couple of dollars more.  ($217 I think).  Apparently they are part owned by BFG.  Now the preferred tyre by many of mining companies in QLD.

They have done great for a just recently on the Bloomfield track and some four wheel driving around cooktown.

Thr Kumho is a good tyre but you get what you pay for.
Good tyre for the money. Yes. As good as a BF not really but if your on a budget and in still after a decent tyre than it might be good option for you :cheers:

Having just returned from the Great North West l can tell you a bit about it . Really it doesn't matter what you bags you run on the tug . Personably l would use any thing rated to LT with as much side wall protection as you can get .
Mostly you will be on sandy roads  , with " Corries " & at lowered pleasures or black top roads & high PSI. DO take a fresh set of bags  to reduce the chance of flats . l carried 2 extra tyres as back up  to get me to new bags if needed .
Your trip will determine the requirement of your bags .
l did chop out a rear set of bags in 12.5K  but they did get a Real Pizzzzzzzzling  on the way

Was talking to a tyre bloke on the GRR. He said BFG's will chip in the Kimberley, and he was right. My KM2's copped some chipping, but they're far from destroyed. The trailer tyres fared worse than the car. He also said Bridgestone D697's did pretty well up there.

Dunno about Kumho ATs, but my HTs have been real good with 93,000 on a set of 4, and currently have 50k and 70k back and front. But I want ATs and Kumho will be right up on the list when these ones eventually wear out (or I chuck them out getting sick of waiting)
