Lightning Ridge Police Bush Safari - 2011 Gulf Trip

The Lightning Ridge Police Bush Safari is a registered charity that organizes an annual 10 to 13 day Safari into the Australian outback. The Safari is organized by Local Police and Community members, during the NSW school holidays (usually September/October), and its aim is to raise money for local charities whilst having fun.

The Safari has been operating since 1990 and has visited most areas of Western and Northern Queensland, South Australia, Western Victoria and the west of New South Wales. The Safari is not a race, it is a leisurely safari through the outback. We rarely do more than 500 kilometres per day, so there is plenty of time to look around. We camp as a group at a pre-selected location near amenities. We even have a couple of rest days at selected locations so you can have a rest or enjoy the local surrounds.

On most nights we organise a local charity or organisation to cater for us, so there is no need to cook each night.

The Safari is accompanied by a support team including two Police Officers, an Ambulance from the Ambulance Service of NSW, a Mechanical support team, and a State Emergency Service vehicle. You can be assured that you won't be alone if you get into trouble.

This year the Safari is heading to the Gulf departing Lightning Ridge on the 25th of September and the destinations we are heading to are Eulo, Windorah, Bedouire, Mt Isa, Lorne Hill National Park, Karumba, Julia Creek, Longreach and the famous Nindigully Pub.

Wow That sounds like great fun.  is there one next year and if so, where to.   Cheers
Why do people spend all of THEIR time and money to get to where WE spend all of our time and money to get away from?

The website say they run each year in the NSW spring school holidays
I've got my leave approved from work so I'll get a few more ducks in a row and I should be off to this one - I'm sooooooo looking forward to it

Cheers

Guys and Girls... I have done a couple of these and they are a great way to see the country with likeminded people.. There is something for everyone.

I went with the old man one year and took the other half and 3 kids on another... Both were great.

I am however biased as "Pitty" and I are mates..

Good Luck with this years trip Pitty... should be able to make it next year. (can you let the cat out of the bag for next years trip yet?)

Paul..
