Coromal F400 vs the rest

I'll probaby cop some stick for this familiar question, but hoped to get some insight.  :-[

Can anyone compare and contrast the difference between the F400 and the Jayco Outback range?  Mostly interested in big ticket things, like chassis, suspension, offroad performance etc, etc.

I've been looking at the Wild River Rockwood, but they're too expensive for me to buy new, and rare to find 2nd-hand.

Any info and advice will be very much appreciated.

I haven't owned a new coromal but i have owned a new jayco outback and I could not understand why the coromal 421 was so much more then the jayco swan so I bough the swan

The suspension I bought was the independent and it was great the chassis was great the body was great the roof leaked the fit out was rubbish but worst of all was the care in the workmanship

Yep build quality is where its at  :cheers:
And to top it off Jayco have monkeys assembling them. In saying that ive been pretty lucky :cheers:

Yep totally agree.
If your half handy with basic tools you can improve the Jayco greatly.
Bit of a pisser having to stuff around with a brand new camper, but wtf else is a bloke meant to do in this crap weather at the moment.

Coromals have a better quality fit out than Jayco, thats why they cost more  :cup:

Grab the F400, its a great deal (with extras included)  :cheers:

I have seen a few F400's around second hand reasonably priced.

Are the Jayco's really that bad?

Not too bad , everything is made to a price, thats why the Goldstream and Coromals cost more.
They just make some stupid mistakes when building them but like i said i must be one of the lucky ones, because i have read some interesting stories on here  :cheers:

I have been doing a fair bit of research in respect to New V's Old Jayco's, they seem more expensive than the F400. Ie, Coromal at Tuggerah NSW selling new for $27990...

There are some good buys out there for Jayco's but there are also a lot over priced...

When the wife and I looked at Jayco's, Coromal etc at the recent show, Coromal's were a lot dearer....

We had some great holidays in ours and enjoyed them

But being a handy guy the quality drove me up the wall i was forever modifying it not just to add things but to fix things that were not done right in the first place.

but one thing i loved about it was the way it held it's value

We were going to go for the F400 (loved the big opening window on the annex side) but found when you wanted to option them up they got to dear. I was quoted $3000 for hot water system + shower etc. It was easier to add Simplicity suspension (similar to Coromal) - Chalk up some weekends for Mods, and save some money IMO.

I have no had any Jaycos but I bought a Coromal Magnum 511 XC last year. Yes it cost us $3k or more for the HWS but to be fair that includes an external shower, second 90 L water tank and the gas fitting and 12 volt and 240 volt wiring etc. I did grumble a bit when we ordered this upgrade, but it is very good!

The Coromal XC offroad (which we have) has additional fixings inside the exterior wall for the cupboards mountings. Also, getting mine ready for a trip in 2 weeks, I have found that whenever I am given a suggestion to harden it up, that when I check it out, Coromal have already been there. eg. Fridge is correctly fitted to Dometic specs, Some cupboards have full length aluminium angles in the corners instead of plastic blocks, good attention to sealing any pipes going through the floor etc. Also, the tyres are 32" 265/75 R16 same as my truck which is running tres 3" larger than stock.

Electrical fitout and the like as standard is very comprehensive and I have not picked up many ideas from reading the extensive threads on Jayco poptop/campers on this forum as I don't need to do what has been done on other makes!

The fitout is a bit basic by some standards but I think it is worth the money. Being an aluminium frame, ours has a 500 kg weight advantage over other similarly sized vans. The feedback we received from other Coromal owners has all been positive.
