Fridge noise when sleeping
« on: October 06, 2012, 07:52:23 PM »
I notice a lot Ct's now have the fridge sitting inside the CT tub on a slide (i.e. drifta kitchens) and am interested if the noise of the fridge running at night keeps you awake.  I guess it could be if the fridge is shut up in the tub at night and running under the bed or left out overnight which would put it just outside the tailgate end of the tub...?

Cheers

My fridges sit outside the camper. Yes you can hear them cycle but with my snoring, I never hear a thing, even abuse from the other campers  ;D

They have never worried me.

Our evakool is under the bed, very quiet. On our last trip I asked swmbo if she "could hear that noise" reply was "what noise" and this from the woman that can hear a pin drop on carpet at 50 meters or me opening a stubbie at 200 meters

I have an old engel which is about as noisy as you can get.  When in the camper it sits right und outr heads, To be honest I don't notice it at all at night.

The fridge in our camper is in a separate compartment. When I'm in bed, my head is right next to the fridge.
To get around the "fridge noise while sleeping" issue, I bought an Autofridge. They can be turned off overnight.
Problem solved.......... :cup:...........(but it's very quiet, anyway).........

I also have a 35L ARB fridge that is VERY quiet. It would probably be OK, too.....

We often heard our Engel cycling away but it never actually woke us up, sometimes it would keep us awake though. The new Waeco seems to be quieter.

My fridge is In a box on the draw bar end of the trailer and yes you can hear it cycling  but there is something soothing about the sound of beer being chilled, similar to the sound of waves lapping at the beach.

Our EvaKool is in the fridge box on the front of the Aussie Swag.  They recommend putting HD foam (thick hiking mat stuff) under either end, which we haven't done until the last trip.  It certainly kept it a little quieter than usual.  The last trip though, we had birds as our alarm clock ... but didn't hear the fridge at all.

We have an auto fridge so it only needs to be turned on for a few hours a day. We turn it off before bed.

We often heard our Engel cycling away but it never actually woke us up, sometimes it would keep us awake though. The new Waeco seems to be quieter.

Boaties have been removing Engel Fridges for year and replacing with Dometic (Danfoss - Waeco) fridges as the noise in a floating hull is not good.

I have just upgraded from an old Waeco FF-30 to a new Waeco CF-50DZ.   I worried badly as when I sleep in the back of the car my head is 6" from the compressor as I lie next to the fridge with the compressor next to the pillow.

I have never been bothered by ether fridge running all night.   So Waeco all the way for me too..

we have a waeco cf80 and it is nice and quiet, dont hear a peep out of it at night, might have something to do with the fact that it sits in the back of the cruiser in its purpose built fridge slide/draw system  ;D
