This is to help members heading up to the Cape.
People who have been there feel free to share your ideas to assist in what works best for you , what to pack etc
When we go we never try and take 2 weeks worth of food as it takes up the space of the beer.
We use 2 fridges 110 waeco fridge / freezer and a 40 ltr engel drinks.
All our food that does not require refridgeration is put into a large container that is unpacked when set up.
There is an abattoir at Seisa to replemish the meat and also a good super market but expect to pay more as everything is shipped in.They sell veges and hot chickens plus normal groceries.

I'm not going damn!
It's always worth getting meat "Cryovac'd" as the butcher will call it. For a few extra dollars, it will keep meat for longer UNDER NORMAL REFRIDGERATION CONDITIONS. This is also a great idea for firm vegies if you have your own food saver at home. We cyovac ice to keep the esky dry and keep re-using it until the bags get damaged. And to save a really bad time, cryovac your important documents and a box of matches to keep them dry and safe.
Oh and enlarge a photocopy of your map and laminate it.

Sausages don't travel well in my experience, even when cryovac'd. They tend to squish. Maybe mine weren't bagged tight enough. Rissoles will become mince, so don't waste your time, just buy mince.
Bread keeps longer when wrapped in newspaper, not that I could be bothered ever.

We took a 60L fridge for food/drinks plus a 32L as a freezer. It's surprising how much frozen stuff you can fit in a small freezer - provided everything is
1] frozen flat
2] any liquid/mince etc food is frozen square or in square containers.
At one stage we even had bread plus meat for others on the trip in the freezer - you just need to remember to take the evening's meat/meal out each morning so it can thaw.

We take good quality meat not woolies or coles. The meat is placed in meal portions and packed and frozen in the fridge / freezer going on the trip. I do not cryovac the meat but wrap it in plastic zip bags. I have never had a problem. I do not take meat with bones.
The meat is marinated steak, schnitzel, sausages, bacon. I may take a roast but depends where I am staying and for how long.
We take wholemeal bread such as Helga's. The bread has the air suckout of the bag wrapped in newspaper and then aluminium foil. This lasts us for about a week plus depending where it sits in the car keep it in a cool place.
Fruit such as apples and pears last better in a cool spot. We do not take bananas as they rippen too quick and need to be eaten straight away.
Vegies are all brought in cans as the can be cooked in a their can or saucepan. Very hard to keep vegies fresh. Onions and potato's are fine in their bags. Like all vegies take them whole even pumpkin as it will last longer until cut then put in the fridge.
