Some may be aware but there are many that have crossed paths with Hutchie. Around a week ago Hutchie had an accident off a ladder. He is currently in hospital in a bad way and is in the best care that he can have. Our thoughts and well wishes go to him, his wife Wendy and the family.
I will update more as it comes to hand.

Terrible news.
Recover quickly.
That is, my biggest fear, falling off a ladder.

Ladders, I bloody hate em.
Wishing Hutchie all the best and hoping for a complete recovery.
-
Wishing him a full recovery.
Prayers are with him.

Hutchie is great value - always has been...
Always willing to share and give.
When my daughter was young, she called him master chef as he always shared his roast dinner!
Very sad to hear hes in a bad way..
No Doubt he will be getting best care.
Hope Wendy is getting support she needs too.

Any update ?

Apparently still stable, but sedated and still not awake.

Todays update via Linda Pearce from Wendy.. Approved for posting.
Hey guys, Wendy rang me today and she is taking a break and came home for one night. So anyway she said that the last two days hutchie has been stable but up until then and since his last op for the brain bleed his brain has been spiking with swelling pretty bad up and down so he was classed as critical but stable. Anyway, they r starting to wake him up from yesterday and they r doing it very very slowly over a week, and the dr suggested to Wendy that she go home for a day or two because the next 7 days r going to get really rough. The Dr also said that he won't work again and their is also a chance that he may not wake up at all, they just don't know. They don't know what his outcome will b until he wakes up.The Dr told her that u can get two ppl with the exact same brain injury and one could come out of it with really bad brain damage the the other with only minor damage, they just don't know yet. Wendy said that she felt him twitch yesterday. So I suggest we send as many good vibes, and or prayers(whatever yer into) as we all can.
Lets keep Hutchie in our minds for the next week or so.

Still can’t get my head around it, was chatting to him 24hrs before the accident
-
Previous messages were about how he may not have actually "fell" off the ladder, but had a minor stroke whilst up there...

I still Remember back in 2012 as a new member organising the Kelly Country camp at Tolmie, where I first met up with most of the Myswag Crew.
Hutchie and Speewa were amongst the first arrivals. Big Jules came down from Sydney. Bruce, Swannie, and a lot of other not currently active members came along.
A great Weekend.
Link to it seems to not be active anymore.. :'(

Thanks for the update Mace.

Sending light and good vibes your way Hutchie and Wendy. What a terrible ordeal...for both of you. XX

An update recieved today
mate If Hutch is in the same condition as he is in currently next Friday, there will be a quality of life meeting to discuss turning things off.
More tests Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and if there’s some positive results, that will impact the decision making. At this stage, there’s a minimal chance he still has Thiopentone in his system keeping him sedated but by Friday it should be out of his system hence the next meeting.
Quality of life tests happening this coming week. All the teams need to be assured that beyond reasonable doubt, the medication isn’t keeping him under and that it’s 100% his body not responding on its own.

This is one of the worst things a family can go through. :'(
I went through it not long ago with my Mum but you also need to ask the real hard questions of the critical care Dr and then do what is best for your loved one, even though it rips your heart out. :'(
My thoughts are with Hutchie's family but also hope that he can come through this and be a functioning person again.

Hi guys, any update on his condition?
-
Not much news, he is making small progress but then has had a couple of setbacks. I believe he is responding to people asking him questions by opening his eyes some times. No speach as I am aware. If i get any further info I will post up

Any news?

Yes, got this yesterday Bird
Update from Wendy,
Hi Guys, sorry I didn't get to catch up when I was home, planning to come home every fortnight. Hutchie has had the best 2 days. Shoo some Pesty visitors out of his room yesterday and he shook the Drs hand this evening, fiddling with all the leds and tubs, rolling his eyes and some great facial expressions.

Word on the street is that Hutchie got out of ICU today, small steps forward

How odd, im currently going through this exact thing with my father at the minute, fell off ladder, brain bleed, 2 weeks in ICU, out to head injury ward yesterday.... I don't know Hutchie, but i hope he gets better, as i am certainly aware of the family's pain.

Yep same story in our family.
BIL fell from a ladder, hit head on the kitchen bench on the way down and although still with us it changed and impacted the whole family.
So pack the ladders away

It just seems to common
Approx 6 weeks ago workmate was getting something out of the passenger side of a bogie tipper
Fell off the step and landed on his head.
Induced coma then tried to bring him slowly out of it.
Lasted another few weeks and passed away.
So many people affected from his family, the boys on the site that were present and the whole company
It's so hard to express the feelings
RIP Baz
Sorry if this is out of line with the thread but very few things in life have affected me like this

My wife used to work in the emergency department always commented to me the number of older gentlemen falling off ladders or roofs. Not sure if its the "I'll be right" attitude, just unlucky or don't have the reflexes/speed like they used to.
Be very careful out there guys, if you're not sure if you can reach - don't. I work on ladders every day and I am super cautious of my ladder position, how slippery the ground is, will I have to reach across too far etc etc. Every now and then I'll start over reaching then suddenly stop myself and have the same conversation - "but it's only another 100mm away? Don't be lazy and move the ladder you dumb Shit."
-
Hi,
Older gentlemen falling off ladders?
Good thing I'm more of an old fart than a gentleman.
Cheers
