Sadly it’s just in the back yard but once again the amazing smell of campfire smoke fills the air

Who else is having a fire? Tell us if you’re home or away….(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220618/cc3846cdbc176052d256b0953d111ff6.jpg)

Hmmm,
Not cold enough here atm for our inside fire, ground is still far to damp for the outside fire pit.
Enjoy your night Swaggers.

The temp and how it changes from one side of town to the other is crazy with that place. ;)

Ha ha! I'm such a cold frog - anything under 25 degrees I am looking for a jumper ;D

I love an inside fire - such fond memories of the wood heater we had in the house as a child. I was bought up on a cattle station (Nappa Merrie) on Coopers Creek where it runs out of Queensland into South Australia.
This warms me twice. :D
Reminds me of the wood collecting party on Bronco11's place when we were at the 2011 National Meet at Wilmington - there was some pretty hard timber amongst it. I've got photos somewhere of BigJules trying to split it with an axe...it was like on the cartoons...the axe hit the wood...the wood didn't budge...but Jules seemed to vibrate on the spot ha ha!

1.1 degrees outside, twenty inside heated by the wood burning kitchen range which also heats the hot water. ;D

Remember that….and as you know Jules wasn’t a small bloke either.

Because I know that :worthles:...I found it!!! I must correct a mistake - he did split the wood but when the axe contacted with the chopping block...well...that was a different story!

Never mind that
What days are you out 😉🤔🤔

That was a overnighter to a mates place near Lismore.
He has a hydraulic splitter that connects to the PTO on one of his tractors
That was 60 mins work tops
Including loading into trailer :)
I would post a video of it if I knew how too ;(

I might have a really bad memory…chemical induced….but did Jules use an axe, or was that actually a Fiskars ??

I can't recall either gronk - I will have to find a photo with a different angle...
-
Yep, we had a backyard fire last night ;D (No photos, sorry :-[)
Realised (remembered!) while we were away just how enjoyable they are, & thought that there's no reason we can't still do them at home!

Again, with a foggy memory, I think that was the 1st time I had seen a Fiskars…..in the flesh and in action.
I eventually bought one, but I wasn’t convinced they were any good….mainly because Jules swung at 110 MPH, and I was a 50 MPH swinger…..lol

We often have them at home - especially through Winter. It feels like you've had a little "getaway" if you get to stare into a fire for a while ;D

Not long bought a spa…..the wife lies in it and stares at the stars….reminds her of camping around a fire and staring at the stars !!

I get my wife to help with the firewood production. I think it helps her appreciate the fire more.

Hi,
Unfortunately our wood burning stove had a fatal haemorrhage from the heat exchange. We have had to change to gas cooking and electric heating and hot water.
With the wood fired hot water radiators in every room most doors were left open and the whole house was cosy.
Not any more!
I don't miss the splitting and carrying wood though.
Cheers

I have a friend who I got to know when he worked for my Dad. He and his Mum live about 40km away on a small cattle property that's been in their family for 3 generations. He's 43 but acts like he's about 93. He informed me the other day that his Mum's wood stove (which they use for cooking not just heating) had died but that he was super stoked as he was able to buy a new one for her. I asked if he'd elected to go gas or electric. He looked at me like I was crazy and said "Oh stuff that..bloody new fan-dangled technology! I sourced her another wood stove but it's about 15 years younger than her other one was and has hardly been used." He was happy as a pig in mud. Bless his cotton socks.
I would love a house with a wood heater...would need to move somewhere where I could use it more than 2 nights a year though ;D

Here, for example.

Yep! :'(
We had one in our previous place, but it only got used ~10 times a year :'(
Neighbours also put one in a couple of years ago & same, same - but there's a gentle stream of smoke drifting across from the chimney as we speak! :cup:
-
Have friends who build homes in Victoria….there are approx 13 councils trying to ban gas on all new properties, for cooking or heating !!
The new age push to ban fossil fuels……but with electricity going up, what’s the bet a wood fire would be out of the question as well !
-
I tried then the wind changed direction and fumigated me, >:( so I stuck the fan there and blew the smoke away. ;D

Are you also getting the smoke from the Beerwah burn off?

There is a distinct smoke smell in the air today, so that may explain it. ;)
