Hi Folks,
As you may have read in the General Discussion section (http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=58530.0 (http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=58530.0)), the Forum is currently undergoing a spring clean in preparation for a server move. After the server move is done Brett is keen to update the forum software to something that is more current and has more IT support available (ie updates, bug fixes etc). Features that I for one would like to see:
*the return of a functioning Member Map or similar - I really loved being able to see where people were located
*possibly a calendar function so that if someone has booked in to stay somewhere and are keen for others to join them, they could note it in the calendar (in conjunction with a post on the Trips Board). This could possibly be a visual prompt for other Members to come along also?
Are there any features that you would like to see in the future?

The Members Map & Calendar are great ideas.
One I was wondering about just over the last couple of days is the various State Camping Locations.
Would there be any way of splitting them up into regions (SEQ, FNQ etc) then sorting the locations alphabetically & making them a bit like a Wiki page that anybody can edit ??? (Sorry for the complicated explanation! ::))
What I'm trying to get at is being able to go in, find the listing for Kingaroy Showgrounds, & update it to say that in June 2022, there were no fires permitted, & cost was $28 / night for powered sites.
Doable ???

More active Moderators to give GG a hand.

Similar to the "Say Thanks" button, add a "Like" button.

Do I see a hand raised there? I

I understand what you're saying Mate. Super labour-intensive job to break them all up though.
Using your above hypothetical - one way of conveying that information could be to simply make a little trip report about you stay at Kingaroy Showgrounds and place it in the Trip, Tracks, Touring and Reports Board. It doesn't have to be flash and extensive - could be as simple as what you have written above. That way, if someone were to be considering staying at the Kingaroy Showgrouds, they could type it into the search function and see what comes up.

More active Moderators to give GG a hand.
This has been a topic for discussion amongst the Admins/Moderators in the past with the conclusion that the current team/numbers is usually sufficient. If people use the "Report to Moderator" function in instances where things need to be sorted (whether it be a classified that needs deleting, a post that needs to be moved to a different section, a post that needs to be reviewed as it doesn't meet Forum etiquette etc) - they are generally dealt with swiftly by one of us as we (Admins/Moderators) get immediate notification. As you know, we have always tried to make it that Myswag is a relaxed and friendly place that generally self moderates. The Mods know that, if ever they feel like they need more help, they just need to say so and we will appoint more help.
Similar to the "Say Thanks" button, add a "Like" button.
I'd be interested in everyone else's thoughts on this one - I myself and more of a fan of actually "saying thanks" or expressing that I "like" something rather than just pressing a button. I think it provides a more sincere experience for the person who is being thanked or their post "liked". How does everyone else feel?
Birds true post count >:D
A Gentleman never tells - hey Bird ;)
And me. ;D
Couldn't forget you Snow

Not really update related, but the price in the ad title in the classified sections??

A "First Unread Post" tab when you open a thread. Find it handy on a couple of other forums I'm on. Saves scrolling down through the posts to find where I am up to on a thread.

I'll ad it to the list of things that Brett needs to look for in new software. Thanks for the suggestion

The thanks button is really good if you time poor and just having a quick squiz through topics, plus if it shows their name in the "like" click, you know who is replying and that's good enough for me. I don't need anyone to type a response for just a like. ???

Good point - it’s still an acknowledgment that you’ve seen their post I guess

The clean up looks great... well done.

Yes, but as other ex members have said (which i dont agree with), forum use is decreasing... via the post count leger.. So, a like doesn't count as a post.... ?
95% of members wont see any change in the forum...

Get rid of the post count.

Valid point also Mace and definitely something to think about.
I think most clubs and forums etc naturally have their ebbs and flows. It would be remiss to think that 100% of the people who join Myswag are going to remain part of the Myswag (as much as we'd love them to). People's interests change, their life commitments change etc and they no longer have the time, money, health or inclination (or a mixture of the 4) to continue doing something they once enjoyed.
COVID has also played a huge part in the decrease of camping/traveling related posts. I for one am looking forward to doing a "live" trip report of sorts as we make our way to and fro (and including) the National Meet ;D
And yes, Forum use (any Forum) has decreased in recent years due to social media platforms such as Facebook. I still feel that people value Forums though as a place to get reliable information from people who have good knowledge of a subject. Time will tell I guess but I for one am optimistic that Myswag will be around for a good while yet.

Get rid of the post count.
I did nothing :-*

What about a tab that would show the threads that you made a comment in for the previous week, or even a couple of days. That way you could follow threads that might be waiting for a comment from you.
It's possible this exists and I just haven't found it.

oh guilty conscious eh....
i still say get rid of it all together.

As with anything, you only get out what you put in. Not many builds being posted, Jeepers has gone AWOL and his build was great to follow, even tiny mods with pictures get people interested and motivated to do their own stuff. Not many trip reports either, even though heaps of people are getting out and about. Just a few words and a couple of pics is all that is needed.
How do you change that? Who knows!
-
So, speaking of Jeepers.... One minute there .. next minute.. Phtttt - gone.
I guess the question on everyone's lips.. Who or what pissed him off this time?????

Very true - you do only get out what you put in.
Trip reports definitely don't need to be anything fancy (but also can be if you want them to be ;D). A few piccies and a quick summary is all that's needed.

I would really like to see the photo's I'm posting in a thread when I hit the "Preview" instead of just the words .
Have a minimum of 5 or 10 posts BEFORE a new member can post something for sale

Hey Jill.
What was the the Members give-a-way thread? Did we have one?
What about for every give-a-way item, a small donation must be made to the server fund by the recipient.

The were originally 'rules' around it all but they disappeared when they changed years. be nice if Jillby or GG could find em again

Guess who got the Calendar Function working ;D ;D ;D

Had another thought earlier.
Would be nice to be able to add photos via an attachment as we currently do, but have them inserted where you want them in the text, rather than only at the bottom of the post.

A "First Unread Post" tab when you open a thread. Find it handy on a couple of other forums I'm on. Saves scrolling down through the posts to find where I am up to on a thread.
It already has it. When you open up a board any thread with NEW posts has a NEW button at the end and clicking on it goes to the first new unread post in the thread

I like the idea of a LIKE button. Used properly it will let you know of people appreciate your post. So long as it doesn't end up like a Facebook Like where people like everything they see.
Also keep the "say thanks" button as it is more special.
Keep the post count, as it makes it easier to answer questions. Someone with 100s of posts might only need a yes / no when a member with a handful of posts will need a detailed answer.
