Title: Are They Worth It?
Post by: Julian Kaye on February 23, 2017, 12:59:50 PM

I' been reading Camper Trailer Australia and their "Camper Trailer of the Year" articles (which are a joke by the way). The winner of the hard floor class was the  Pioneer Mitchell, a T-Van clone which looks very nice and I'm sure it's top class in every way, list price $69,800, second was the T-Van Tanami, $61,150.
Now seriously, I respect and admire quality Australian products, but are these people kidding? How far does quality go before the price outstrips any semblance of value for money? I just don't see how people could lay down their hard earned on these products and walk away with something that is a very nice, well built mobile tent.

All I'll say is I picked up a Tvan this week and consider it money well spent.

I think it comes down to different stages of life as well, for me that's crazy money because I use my camper a few times a year to go camping. If I were a retiree that planned to spend a lot of time travelling and had the money sitting in the bank it would be a totally different proposition.

It depends on your circumstances.

If you only use it once a year and pay $100,000 for a caravan, some may think not, but to the person who bought it and uses it that once, if they want it and can afford it then why not?

We have had just as much fun in our swag as we have in our $75K caravan.
We still love both and think they are both worth the money.

I'll be at the farm this weekend riding with my son. We will be in the swag doing the whole "roughing it" thing.
When I go in a few weeks with my daughter, we'll stay in the caravan and probably watch Cinderella on the flat screen with the AC on.

Horse for courses I reckon.
BUT----- I also share your sentiment that sometimes its just going too far cos you can. But if you can, then why not?
Whatever makes you happy.

But then you have an extra 50k sitting in the bank, can't take it with you so may as well enjoy it.

Although I don't think they were in the competition this year I don't mind the Aussie Swags.  If I had $60k to drop then I would look at them also.  There are some new videos up on their youtube of their latest model.  One thing I really like about the AS is that you don;t need to adjust any of the poles.  To me that is awesome.  You can also upgrade to electric opening now also.

We are at a stage right now trying to decided on a new camper or hybrid.
I have just been looking at the Mitchell. But it still got canvas. Then I look at the price and i can get a hybrid van. Rhinomax Scorpion. Which ticks all my boxs but again bloody $$$$$$.
Doing my head in.

Just been through the same process.  We found it helpful to have it all on a spreadsheet so we could compare.  We had everything that was a "must have" in one section then "wants" in another.  We decided on the Mitchell because that suited our needs best.  Good luck with your choice
