Hi All,
I just came across this by chance and thought I'd share it as I think it's a very well put together article. Enjoy!

Could be just me but I'm think that guy just likes to let people know that he do sums
Lots of assumptions and thus to calculate that a roof top tent sees over 7G's ??? I reckon his initial assumption that the roof moves 5cm up and down 8 times in 1 second is deeply deeply flawed :cup:

Spose it depends what you doing in the tent.........

I'd reckon you'd need to be a top affleet, reeeeally excited, and just about at the checked flag moment to get that sort of rhythm going.
Some one got an idea who that may be?
Not me obviously, I don't have a roof top tent, just for a start.

hmmm, not that well put together.
Make an assumption, do the sums, show that there are 7g of acceleration caused by 1G of gravity, most people would go back and review their assumptions.

After all that maths i think he needs a few beers and new suspension, perhaps skip the beers and put the extra $ into better suspension that damps the corregations.
Maybe he could also air down & knock 10km off.

Maybe with his Maths calculations he shoulda' put that little - on the stem of his 7's so he could tell'em from the 1's.

Corrugations one meter apart but only 1 cm high? He also assumes the corrugations are perfect waves and not pointed at the top wtc and states if they aren't perfect the G force would be higher.
By my reading he claims 10G, human body can handle about 5, i blacked out driving on corrugations!
If 70 kg tent exerts 700 kg dynamic load, my 2.5 tonne vehicle has a peak load of 25 tonnes!

He's obfuscating. If your vehicle is designed to meet the US NHTSA roof crush standards (FMVSS 216) it has to have a strength to weight ratio (SWR) of 3.0. ie withstand 3.0 times the unladen weight of the vehicle on its roof. Prior to 2016 it was 1.5. This applies to all cars up to 2,700kg GVM pre 2016 and upto 4,536kg GVM post 2016.
Aus doesn't have a similar standard as they take the view most manufacturers will build to meet that standard if they want to sell in the US

There was a myth busters episode where they loaded a golf or similar with about 1 tonne on the roof and drove around, no issues
