i have zero interest in this game nor do i want to have any in it
but i have found out that these things could be on my property,
can they also be inside my house?
what's stopping people entering my yard climbing my trees and fixtures or worse entering my house
in attempt to catch one of these things.

You just need to catch the most powerful one and keep it chained up in your yard to scare them away. It really is that simple. ;D

There could be one right next to you right now, could be one there when you do whatever it is you do when you think no one is around :o

Fences, doors, windows and laws. :police:
I all seriousness cut and paste from elsewhere
"In simple terms, Pokémon Go is a game that uses your phone’s GPS and clock to detect where and when you are in the game and make Pokémon "appear" around you (on your phone screen) so you can go and catch them. As you move around, different and more types of Pokémon will appear depending on where you are and what time it is. The idea is to encourage you to travel around the real world to catch Pokémon in the game. This mix of a game and the real world interacting is known as "augmented reality."

"Japan’s nuclear regulator sent out a warning to national energy providers telling them to tighten security after the incursion of three teenagers into a nuclear power plant in Ohio in the US. Tepco has banned employees from playing Pokémon Go on site"

Sheila that works with me was on her phone the other day chasing a Pokemon thing around the main entrance to our building.. Had her phone set to camera and this cartoon pokemon thing would appear and move around the the room, then she cornered it in camera view and started swiping the screen to flick coloured balls at it.." didnt kill or capture it before she ran out of ammo though " .
Bet the phone companies love this game, boosting the usage of peoples data and making them more profits ..
-
yeah similar thing happening in our street over the weekend
people walking around with their phone in all kinds of crazy directions
then there's the people in cars pulling up and running around
that's when it clicked and started asking questions

It's a marketing gimmick. The games promoters were reportedly earning about 1.5mil per day from businesses paying to have lures in their shops to attract clientele, not to mention the data plan income for the Telco's.

Shares in Nintendo Co tumbled as much as 18 per cent on Monday after the company said Pokemon GO! would have a limited impact on its earnings - their biggest setback so far after a huge run-up on the smash-hit game.
The Kyoto-based gaming company, which is due to report first-quarter results this week, surprised markets with a statement on Friday that income garnered through its 32 per cent stake in affiliate Pokemon Company, which owns the licensing rights, would be limited and that it did not plan to revise its earnings outlook for now.

if it uses gps it should be able to recognize walking speeds and driving speeds and not work after you hit 10kph
wonder if there's any regulations on someone planting an object on your private property for someone else to find
it bugs me and don't agree with it

Here's how it works in a nutshell Adam...... ohhh that's right, i have a life.....sorry mate, i have no idea.
Was at the park on the weekend and could see plenty of kids there, such a shame some of them were walking around looking at their phones chasing this crap, instead of playing on the swings and slides that were there, or riding bikes on the bikeways like myself and my kids were doing....they were like little zombies glued to their phones

Yep, but I guess it's better than them all sitting inside on the lounge playing computer games.
-
I have no problems with kids playing the game as least it gets them out the house and something to talk about at school with there friends, but when I see adults playing the game that’s just sad and confirms they don’t have a life.
I asked a similar question at work as my 8 year old wanted to play the game, then I had 15 people aged 25+ giving me instructions. After they answered my question I told them they need a life.
My Son played the game for 3-4 days and then got bored, so happy with that.

they walk around at a snails pace staring at their phones...it's not like they are exercising really. if i saw them running around i'd think atleast they are exercising, but all the ones i saw at the park may aswell have been on the couch.
-
When I go for a stroll during lunch break, there are 100s very pale people standing along side the road in Kings Park staring at their phone.
It is hard to walk on the footpath as that's where they are.
It would have been better when they brought out the game in our summer......

Makers of the game have realised their early mistake with the tracking functionality. You can just see what is nearby now but there is no accurate way of knowing if your getting closer, so unlikely anyone will jump fences etc any more.
Its no different to many other GPS games like Geocaching and Munzeeing but a lot more popular because its based on a franchise. Something will replace it soon enough.

seen on the vicroads sign yesterday from Geelong to Meb a caution about playing "pokemongo while driving"
-
I reckon if you got something like a Rottweiler/Bull Arab cross, and dressed up like a pokemon, you could have some real fun.

Germany installs ground-level traffic lights for distracted cellphone users
Cellphone users glued to their devices while navigating city streets are about to get a guiding light.
These pedestrians, dubbed "smombies" — smartphone zombies — in Germany, are slated to get special traffic lights to help them avoid oncoming traffic in Bavaria, according a Mashable article, citing a local German publication.
...More recently, in New Jersey, a new bill proposes penalizing distracted walkers for crossing streets while focusing on their phones. They would face a $50 fine and up to 15 days in jail. :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup:

That is my concern with this game is ‘predators’ can set up Pokémon stops to lure kids in. That is why either myself or my wife always went with my son. But luckily he got bored with the game after 2 days.

I like this one

Had some little farker in his mid-20's in our front garden last night about 9:30, trying to catch a mother-****ing Pokémon...
Had a massive blue with him, as he didn't think I was being reasonable by telling him to fark off, or I'd smash his phone, shortly followed by inserting the pieces into his rectum...
He left once he realized I was serious!!!

Am enjoying this topic and I love your wit Axle (see page 1).
Sharp mate!
Although (maybe?) a little off the mark from a contextual viewpoint the image works great as a visual comparison:)

Don't care what you guys say, it is still fun to wander around a caravan park and catch em. Think I got five yesterday doing that. I was going to walk around the park anyway, this just adds an element of purpose to the meander.
New park, Will probably do the same tomorrow...
No need to get so uptight about it. After all, it is not like I am sitting inside glued to the olympics on TV or something.
