And more to come....
The deluge that hit central Queensland has broken a 64-year record for Bundaberg, with the city receiving seven times its October rain average well before the month's end.
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said Bundaberg had received 519mm of rain already this month, well in excess of the previous record of 280mm set in 1953.

I know I posted this pic yesterday in the phone pics thread already, but I did it via this website....just checking if I've learnt how to use a extrrnal hosting site now since Photobucket isn't an option these days. Pic is from yesterday's afternoons storm

i assume you mean what host site?...i used Imgur. I still haven't worked out how to make separate albums in their site or if i have settings on private viewing and what not there yet, Photobucket was so much easier to navigate then this hosting site is. Might need to try looking at it on the home computer instead of the tablet and see if that shows stuff differently, i used to struggle with Photobucket on the tablet also...lol

Notv a drop at our place once again...storms have been splitting and missing central Brisbane mostly, which isn't a bad thing...abit more rain would be nice though, but can't complain about the 47.5mm we've had the past 2 weeks either.

little bit of purple stuff on the radar, might be time to cover up the cracked and chipped windscreen on a panel van worth about $200.00.
I hope no hail stones go through my rust holes. ;D

Just had our fourth storm in as many days. Glad we're not camping !!!
Small hail today/now at Burrum Heads but not damaging !!

Just had our fourth storm in as many days. Glad we're not camping !!!
we were camped on Straddie for 11 days over Xmas and New Year.....watched storm after storm hitting everywhere in SEQ and Northern NSW but where we were camped on the Northern end of North Stradbroke Island. Several times looking at the radar i commented to mates, "geez i'm glad we aren't camping at such an such location".....even the bottom end of North Straddie at Main Beach looked to cop a heap of rain and storms that we missed out on. We got real lucky with our Xmas camping weather this year, but i reckon there's quite a few people that'd have some horror stories to tell.
-
Smashed overnight apparently...
-
Yep, power off for hours, heavy pots on the veranda blown over and a tree over the fence.
Of course it happened 4 hours after I drove out the gate >:(
-
Monthly gum tree stress test is now complete, please go about your business.
-
hi
Only your typical storm in Nth Qld bitsa rain bitsa thunder . Try power outages for at least 1wk upto 3wk
Once again SE Qld ,,,, Yawn !!!!
-
No issues here. Wouldn't even know there'd been a storm... We seem to get lucky that way - when there's a lot of rain the parks near us flood, but anytime there's strong winds, hail, etc. it thankfully goes around us.
Sounds like some other suburbs got hit pretty hard... I saw photos of powerlines down etc. on the south side.
-
Smashed overnight apparently...
we just got 80kh winds and abit of rain at our place...there's a few areas still without power currently, coppers doing traffic light duty at Sleeman Sports Complex as I went past a half hour ago. Redland Bay recorded 114kph winds, out Boonah and Beaudesert way had tennis ball sized hail...just depends where you live as to how bad you copped it.
-
Back on line after 30hrs no power. Fairly savage wind with a couple of gum trees at home snapped off up high, but not a lot of water with it.
Lost the contents of the fridge, but managed to save most of the freezer contents by utilizing the camping fridges as a freezer. No power = no water for us (tanks & pumps), so bucket baths for a couple of nights............just like camping :D
It's summer, it storms, the power goes off................plenty of people with bigger problems more worthy of attention than my defrosted ice cream. The TV news likes to beat up a frenzy bigger than the actual storm. I remember after a smallish cyclone (cat 2)in NQ once, all the friends and family ringing in a panic to check on our welfare after seeing the reports on the telly. We were confused cause the biggest concern in the town was the shade sail at the pub got damaged ?

Particularly early days after I moved to Queensland I'd have family from back home in Victoria call me all the time when there was a storm anywhere in QLD. I don't think they realised that a) its a HUGE state, and b) storms happen all the time up here in summer, we deal with them and move on. Some of them are nasty, but most are hyped up more than they are worthy of considering their frequency...

We only had 10 hours without power, but it dropped out right as I finished cutting, grinding and welding a heap of steel brackets in the shed.
Washing off all that metal dust and sweat (38 degrees in the shed all day) in my bucket and cup shower was not a great way to end my weekend.
But nothing we haven’t been through many times before.... ;)

On our old house in NSW Blue Mts that I built and lived in for 30 years had tank water / septic etc, we would often experience large wind storms that would result in power outages for days.My suggestion from that experience is that the best purchase you can make is a genie. I had a 4.5 Kva Honda genie.
My set up included a bypass on the kitchen rinnai gas hot water heater ( had 2 hot water heaters for house) to allow hot water to bathroom. Genie to run water pump, septic pump and air blower and fridge and rinnai heater electronics. Originally gas lanterns for lights but towards end I installed a few LED strip lights wired back to a battery that I would keep charged. Gas cooking, fire place for warmth and we where happy self sufficient campers.
The best thing the power company did in our area was change street mains from single wires for each phase to a bundle cable resulting in fewer local outages, but this didn't help if it was the high voltage lines that failed.
Now I'm in Brisbane my only concern is the septic and fridge and again the gas heater that services the "granny flat" bathroom. I now can just get the van genie going to power up those items.
-
Got in home with day light this arvo and realised that I dodged a bullet. Our van, camper trailer and box trailer are parked down the back surrounded by trees. Today I noticed that after Sundays night storm I had 2 trees where the crowns had snapped and fallen into each other but have not come down. Directly beneath these trees are the said trailers. So I relocated the trailers and will work out how to remove the trees. Lucky I guess.
-
This is our home setup for a 6kva genset (tested output 5.6 kva). 15 A plug and runs the whole house easily. We do cook on the deck with gas appliances normally anyway so don't use the electric stove, microwave or kettle with the genny. Throw the billy on the wok ring for a cuppa.
We have two full size 'fridges, a three quarter size stand up freezer, beer fridge on deck and the 40 litre Engel and run all, no problems plus the pump for house water, lights, 'puter and if necessary, the telly.
Genny has AVR.
The board was installed professionally.

3rd rain day in a row for me today and next Wednesday looks to be the 1st day I'll be back at work.
No money coming is gunna break me, i'm finding with no income, i'll have to cut back to 3 meals a day.
I might have to break out the snorkel and flippers and start mowing anyway.

Sun is out and only had 4mm last night.
Doesn’t bother me though, water tanks are full and garden is green, don’t really need 100mm+ around here.

The creek is flowing beautifully, the gardens are loving it and the 30 odd tube stock natives that I planted in the last couple of weeks just got a kick along.
Sun is out now, all smiles here. :)

Maybe this should be in the rant thread...........but where has all the bloody rain gone.
The the reporters in raincoats said would be flogging down all week-end, so I rushed out early yesterday and hired a plugger, cored the whole yard, and spread 100kg of fertilizer.....raced around like a madman to have it all done by lunchtime to be ready for the wrath of god type rains that paul blerty blert said wold be coming........................................and not a frikkin drop yesterday. get up this morning..............blue sky's and sunshine >:( >:( >:(
sorry SEQ, but if today is the start of a 100 year drought, it's all my fault.

that's why you don't go by what tv news says...Thursday night Weatherzone forum said rain would ease / stop Saturday morning and if the sun was out there was a chance of a storm occurring in the afternoon, any rain would likely be up Sunny Coast and down the Goldy and into NSW which is what happened, they also said today is a chance of a storm this afternoon. The problem with much of tv news is, they take SEQ's forecast and report it to being Brisbane alone.

Sounds rather impressive!
Heavy thunderstorms continue to push northeast, with further development expected, particularly areas between Imbil and Nambour.
Around 50mm has been recorded around Jimna within a 60 minute period.

Yep, drove right through the middle of that southern one on the way home from our family night at the movies.
Kind of reminded me of driving around up north every day between mid January and March... ;D
We got about 40mm at our place, wouldn’t know it looking around on our 5km morning walk this morning. Just another day in paradise... ;)
Oops, sorry, I mean it’s bloody terrible up here. Victoria is so much nicer than this hell hole....

Meanwhile on the Southside of Brisbane, we got 0.8mm from that same system.

Finally a little bit of info about the Brisbane radar ongoing outage...
The German manufacturer of the Mt Stapylton rain radar was being urgently called on to repair the weather-observation technology, as it remained offline for the third week in a row.
The Brisbane weather radar experienced incomplete radar scans and related outages in February following several days of stormy weather.
The bureau said it was “seeking to resolve the root cause of these issues urgently with the radar manufacturer” and is “estimated (to) return to service date (in) mid-March”.
The radar was taken offline on February 20. At the time, the weather bureau said repairing the radar was a priority.
“The frequency and recurrence of these issues is of concern, and is being given our urgent attention,” a spokesman said.
“In the meantime, southeast Queensland has overlapping radar coverage from Marburg, and also Gympie to the north and Grafton further south.
“While radar is an important tool used for observations, the bureau’s weather forecasts and warnings are based on a combination of many different observing systems.
“The composite nature of these national systems allows forecasters to monitor and predict approaching weather even in areas where there is little or no radar coverage.”

Yes, but you only put out a foreguess twice a day, at 4am & 4pm - not much use to everybody trying to see where the rain is, how heavy it is, how long they've got before it hits, & so on :'(
-
The 4am is generally a copy and paste of the 4pm.
Apparently the all of actual edumicated ones left in there only work on the day shift.... ;D
Don’t blame the bureau though. Thank our cyclist friend that famously said “science is crap”....
Oh yeah, we’re just about to tick over 50mm for today and it’s still bucketing down here.

I see Bribie beach camping is currently closed due to this cyclone / future low pressure system.....there was no beach to drive on several weeks back when we were there with the big tides, was right up to the dunes, they reckon tides could be even bigger in the coming days.
.Park alerts
Bribie Island Recreation Area closed due to severe weather
This alert applies to the following parks:
Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area
Bribie Island will be closed from Tuesday 13 March through to Friday 16 March. Closure is due to a tropical low off the Queensland coast that is forecast to create dangerous surf conditions, strong winds, large swells and abnormally high tides over the coming days.
Check Park Alerts regularly for updates on current park conditions.
For people with camping bookings over the closure period, a booking change, refund or system credit will be available via the online booking system at www.qld.gov.au/camping (http://www.qld.gov.au/camping)

Wow! You'd have to be special to keep that up
"Cloncurry was the standout both in terms of how hot the temperatures were and how long the high temperatures lasted. [It] had 43 days in a row over 40 degrees Celsius."
The previous record of consecutive days hotter than 40 degrees in Cloncurry, about 120 kilometres east of Mt Isa, was 31 days.

Townsville dam levels.
This time last year 15% full.
As of 6pm today 190% full.
Fingers crossed it doesn’t get to 300% full which is apparently the trigger for some pretty drastic action.

Gave my ex next door neighbor in Idalia a call this afternoon as I still own the house and have it rented out. The water level isn’t a threat yet but who knows what will happen over the weekend. But it’s fully insured so the most I have to lose is the excess I guess. Others are/could be in a much worse situation than I am.

Cracking and ground shrinkage is amazing, all due to the dry.

Sorry, should have said around Townsville. 15mm of rain is not dry, try 0.5mm for Jan and non on the horizon.

The dam at is currently at 215% and still more to come.
My cousins have been evacuated, the creek beside my sisters place is getting close to bursting and she is cut off from getting to my other sister’s and brother’s houses.
Some of our Townsville swaggers may have more accurate details, but I’m hearing stories about the army possibly having to take drastic action on the dam wall if the levels get too high.
Townsville is one of those special places, while it is in the wet tropics it doesn’t really get proper wet events all that often. It’s times like this when we see how poorly the city is able to handle proper rainfall.
Hope everyone up there is safe and things don’t get as bad as some are predicting.

Well my Dad made the news up in Townsville. He's been staying up at my sister's place having treatment for his cancer. They live out on 25 acres out near the dam. Anyway, he's started struggling with the side effects of his chemo and needed medical assistance. The only way out was with the help of the swift water rescue crew. That was Tuesday morning and unfortunately he is still in hospital receiving treatment. The upshot is that it's probably the best place to be whilst this weather event is happening. My sister and family have been on a 10 day cruise and left prior to all the weather. They arrived in Brissy this morning and can't get back to their property. Half of the 25 acres was under water when Dad left and they've had a heap more rain since, plus the releases from the dam. We were up there over Christmas and it's unbelievable seeing where the water is at the moment. Anyways, stay safe up there.
Cheers, Mike.

As I have lived there for almost 70 years, I find some of your comments interesting. I doubt many other major cities experiencing rainfall of around a metre plus in a few days would cope as well or any better, unless things have changed since I dealt with them, the army are neither equipped or permitted to do anything to the dam.
Townsville is not considered to be in the wet tropics, which starts approximately 100km or so further north, but it does get very intense rainfall on occasions at reasonably frequent intervals, I recorded 680mm in 20 hours in January 98 and there have been many other occasions of very high rainfalls, the main problem at the moment is consistent very heavy rainfall in the catchment area for an extended period, usually intense rainfall such as this in the tropics, tends to last 24 to 48 hours then ease off to a more steady rate.
My understanding from civil engineer's who were in QLD gov water resources dept and the Council, is the dam flow rates are controllable by the flood gates up to about 300% capacity, over that, water will be above the flood gates and flow cannot be controlled, the possibility of that ever happening is considered extremely improbable!
Unless we get extremely heavy rain prior to 9am Sunday I expect to be a bit over 1200mm since 28th January, when I check the gauge in the morning
-
Its pissing down there still on the radar at the moment.
in 2011, there was stories doing the rounds that Wivenhoe's dam wall was suspect and about to fail.
Also talk of uncontrolled issues with over the spill ways (earth style) and how they would wash away quickly.
True or not, I don't know, as the reporters an stories were getting out of control.
Hopefully, all will be ok with the dam up north.

Yes 1998 was “the big one” for Townsville. I happened to be stuck at a relatives house not far from the Ross River waiting for the highway north to reopen for that one.
I noticed yesterday that the Ross river had already passed the record height from that 1998 event.
Townsville’s average annual rainfall is 1100mm, so to have 1200mm in these last few days is just amazing.
My comments regarding Townsville flooding are purely observational. As you know South Townsville floods on the spring tides.
Townsville has a very small catchment area which is sandwiched between the mountains and the ocean. The areas most populated are very flat and the majority of the city center and to the south and west is built on mud flats. Natural drainage is poor in a lot of suburbs (the newly built ones seam to be better then those older ones closer to the city center).
Apart from the occasional cyclone that passes by, Townsville really just doesn’t get proper rain events when compared to the surrounding areas of that region.
At only around 750 square km the Townsville catchment area is much smaller then the surrounding river systems.
The Burdekin, for example, receives roughly the same annual rainfall, while its catchment is over 130,000 square km and has only recorded 10 major floods.
You mentioned other cities getting that amount of rainfall.
The 2011 Brisbane floods had exactly that. Over 1200mm of rain fall on a catchment area of almost 14,000 square km (18 times bigger then Townsville’s catchment) in the period leading up to the actual flood, including around 500mm falling above the dams in the immediate days prior.
Poor management of the dam that was built for flood mitigation but now primarily used for water storage worsened the down stream flooding.
Which, thanks for clearing up, I was hearing the same about the Townsville dam.
Some people get a bit over excited in big events like these and I was hearing all sorts of hyped up rumors about the dam wall.
Pretty much exactly as was happening in the Brisbane flood.
It’s a big call, release more water now and flood a few homes or don’t release it and risk a major incident if it keeps raining.
Anyway, this will be one for the record books and I hope everyone gets through it ok.
Stay safe.

Its usually the tv "reporters in raincoats" that hype the crap out of everything.
-
yeah, all 28 of them.
-
Its pissing down there still on the radar at the moment.
in 2011, there was stories doing the rounds that Wivenhoe's dam wall was suspect and about to fail.
Also talk of uncontrolled issues with over the spill ways (earth style) and how they would wash away quickly.
True or not, I don't know, as the reporters an stories were getting out of control.
Hopefully, all will be ok with the dam up north.
i'd assume the concerns with Wivenhoe were real.... it wasn't that long ago really (about 20 years maybe) that they discovered the dam wall wasn't properly anchored to the bedrock below, and that if some of the earth started washing away beside it that the entire wall could possibly turn sideways. From what i was told (by a family member engineer involved with it) they ended up drilling holes down through the spillway into the bedrock below and post tensioned reo into it

Also with the news in recent times, there always has to be someone "LIVE ON SCENE" they cross to ... and usually theres nothing there to see... ??? just revolving the same 10 seconds of footage

Geez, that was clever by the original builders.
I guess that happens when you run with the cheapest quote.

The two Swiss and two German tourists are back on dry land after the private helicopter plucked them from floodwater near Middleton on Saturday.

Pretty safe bet that a politician would have promised they would stop all floods for ever after the 1974 event.

"The monsoonal deluge has been declared a catastrophe by the Insurance Council of Australia, with losses estimated at $16.7 million and the worst yet to come."
I bet the rejection letters will be ready before the claims even arrive on their desks.

Going to be an expensive trip for those 4 :'(

Post deleted so as not to cause unnecessary fear anxiety to those already affected. Thanks Rowlie for adding a different perspective (although a different one to my personal experience).

some insurance companies are experts at dancing around the fine print.......will it be classed as flood" or "storm water run off?
I suspect there will be lots of reports of people believing they are covered, and insurance companies believing they are not.
So far my house is ok, but at least my insurer - Westpac - reached out via text on Friday afternoon stating “if you are affected by the impending flood and need to make a claim, please call us”.
I know a civil engineer that regularly does work for insurers and their position is “if there is any doubt go in favour of the insured”. They don’t want to go to court and by and apparently the courts tend to rule against them if there is even the smallest doubt.
I guess time will tell but hopefully the rain stops and the river doesn’t rise too much higher.
And to all th Swaggers up there, good luck and most importantly stay safe.
-
Just spoke to my old neighbour again. Unfortunately his house has flooded and so it is almost certain that my place has gone under too. :'(
-
Uninformed comments about insurance companies does nothing but create fear and anxiety in the minds of people who might have been impacted by the disaster. With the possible exception of one insurer (who also sells groceries) I think you will find that all of them ceased differentiating between rainwater runoff and flood some years ago. The only other exception is in business policies where flood is still an option. I am confident the insurers will all be bending over backwards to do everything they can in what will be very difficult circumstances. Anyone who is in doubt or has signs of water damage no matter how severe should inform their insurer. The new asbestos is mould and insurers don't cover mould unless the event that caused it can be identified ergo water getting in under the house or a bit of dampness in a wall should be reported just in case. If it all goes away and dries out great but if not you can fall back on the report if you need to.
Good luck to everyone up north - we in the bottom end are thinking of you. If you are insured have confidence that you will be well looked after.
-
Well said Rowlie. The last thing people need now is worrying whether or not their insurance will cover them. I’ve also heard that some p#$cks are looting from evacuated houses. I reckon the army personnel helping out should be armed with orders to fire off a few warning rounds if they see anyone looting. If that doesn’t work then just shoot the bast@#&s.
-
Sad to hear about your place Rockrat.
This situation is really getting serious tonight. We’re thinking of everyone up there at the moment.
RISK TO LIFE AND PROPERTY
Dangerous and high velocity flows will occur in the Ross River Sunday night into Monday. Unprecedented areas of flooding will occur in Townsville. Expect access routes to be cut.
Conditions will change rapidly and continuously. Stay informed, look for updates and follow advice of emergency services.
IMPORTANT INFOMATION FROM TOWNSVILLE CITY COUNCIL:
Residents in many suburbs across Townsville are warned that they may experience flooding from rapid rises of the Ross River. This includes Rosslea, Hermit Park, Railway Estate, Townsville City, Oonoonba, Idalia, Cluden, West End, Rowes Bay, Garbutt, Aitkenvale, Cranbrook, Currajong, Mysterton, Pimlico, Mundingburra, Douglas, Annandale, Kirwan and Thuringowa Central and South Townsville areas.
Everyone in the above suburbs should ensure they move away from riverbanks and get to higher ground before 8.30pm Sunday night. Residents still in their homes in these suburbs should move to the highest ground in their dwelling before 8.30pm Sunday night.
A map of potential inundated properties will released shortly by Townsville City Council.
If you require evacuation assistance, contact SES on 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies call 000.
For more information listen to local radio, phone 1800 738 541 or visit Councils Emergency Management Dashboard disaster.townsville.qld.gov.au
Ross River:
The Ross River dam spillway gates may open to their full setting between the hours of 8.30pm Sunday night and 6am Monday. This setting would release up to 2000 cubic metres of water per second out of the dam.
The Ross River at Aplin Weir is currently at 2.96 metres (above the major flood level of 2.90 m) and rising. The river level will continue rising overnight Sunday into Monday.

Thanks Pete. Thankfully our tenants got out well before the flooding and now it is pretty much over to the insurance company.
In a slightly funny twist, the tenant had been asking if I would replace the carpets and I said no. Perhaps she has connections with a higher power.... ;D
-
Still raining as I type this, had at least 200mm+ so far Sunday night, mainly since 4pm, my 150mm rain gauge was on the verge of overflowing at 7.30pm, emptied into a bucket and will read it tomorrow with what falls for the rest of the night, the 250mm gauge will hopefully make it to 9am
BOM recently modified the estimate of the expected rainfall about 11pm, now predicting 450mm + over the dam catchment by 9am Monday, 300mm fell over dam between 2pm and 4pm.
Ergon conservative estimate, 15,000 properties without power at 10pm, mainly due to disconnection of suburbs because safety concerns from flooding. Currently I'm one of the lucky ones with power and only rainwater runoff, street still has been 300mm under water for most of the night.
-
With a bit of luck, going by the radar they may have dodged a fair bit more heavy rain today.. Wont help the poor buggers already under much though .
-

Ross River Dam had Dam strengthening done about 6 or 7 years ago with tensioned ground anchors that have been installed to allow load checks every 5 years, this occurred last year. Most dams in Oz are always under constant review under ANCOLD to ensure they meet the ever changing compliance, ie 1 in 1000 year flood events. The same did and does apply with Wivenhoe and many other dams throughout oz. Company I work for recently completed upgrades to Boondooma and Lesley Harrison. Somerset will be next with a Shit load of anchors to be installed to meet ANCOLD standards, hence why Somerset has been sitting at 80% over the past 2 years.
Some dams have fuse plugs, ie Dam walls away from the main Dam that can be blown to relieve pressure on the Dam with big floods as a last resort. Think Wivenhoe needs to go to 210% for this to occur and if it ever has to those downstream would cop it. Unfortunately RRD can on rely on the spillway gates and if the water overtops the wall (higly unlikely) then its major.

Photo of Idalia in Townsville. My old house, now an investment property, is circled.

Interestingly, a lot of the area in Idalia & Annandale that flooded with the dam gates open fully was wetlands 20 years ago. Now new estates with up-market houses, new shopping centres......
who let them build there?......the council of course.... ???

I was looking at the rain specs for Townsville and its pretty wild to say the least.
I then started looking at rain specs in my own area here in the valley.
Wettest on record for Feb was way back in 1928.
Driest on record for Feb was way back in 1923.
That sort of kills some of the global warming stuff..... maybe?

Low-lying south-east Queensland coastal suburbs could be inundated in coming days with Tropical Cyclone Oma expected to whip up king tides and huge swells, battering the coastline.
A driver was caught out taking on the big swell at Rainbow Beach, north of the Sunshine Coast, on Tuesday and was forced to abandon his ute, leaving it at the mercy of the pounding waves.
The weather bureau has issued dangerous surf warnings for the Capricornia Coast, Hervey Bay, Fraser Island Coast, Sunshine Coast Waters, Moreton Bay and Gold Coast from Tuesday onwards.
A woman swimming in a natural pool in Noosa National Park was picked up and dumped onto rocks by a freak wave on Monday and had to be winched to safety by a rescue helicopter.

That would put the cyclone somewhere in the bush just north of Hughenden then.... ;D

Some of the models have SEQ getting smashed by cyclone OMA, the most accurate one currently has it crossing the coast around Fraser as a Cat 1 and Brisbane copping 1200mm of rain, the second most accurate one has it staying off the coast and substantially less rain, both have big swells though so the beaches will cop it.

not good :(

Don't be surprised if it does.
This has been a very odd summer so far.
We've had only 12mm of rain since early December, hottest, driest summer season in a long time.
I hope we don't get 1200mm, but a decent drop of rain would be very appreciated.
We also haven't had a day under 30c for the entire summer, our average high is 34.9 during the month of Feb.
The highest we've had is 42.9...so friggin hot.

Heard on the news this morning that it is either going to cross the coast Southern Qld / Northern NSW or will continue south to NZ. The guy did clarify that it is still a week off which means the predictions can be widely inaccurate. They have no idea but obviously the information world doesn't accept that so they have to comment and predict.
-
All the models basically showed it turning towards the Qld coast and coming closer as it is now doing, after that the models all varied dramatically to what it’ll do...from crossing the coast, to heading to NZ, and some even had it heading North hugging up the Qld coastline....to early for any model to know for sure.
Hopefully we get some decent rain from it atleast, but even that’s no guarantee yet....digging holes 600mm down in my backyard the other day and it’s hard and dry all the way, need a good bit of rain here for sure.

Does ya head in eh.. .I've asked before why they feel the need - they did it at the fires too..
And something nobody has ever been able to answer..... Why are reporters and TV crews allowed into fire zones after the fire has destroyed a town - and the home owners are kept back klms away from the charred remains of their houses? The world gets a LIVE CROSS to the ash, before the owners have even been told their house is destroyed ...
How does that work?

Funny, I always thought that the king tides were astronomical, not weather related ??? >:D
from wiki
"King tide" is a colloquial term for an especially high spring tide, such as a perigean spring tide. "King tide" is not a scientific term, nor is it used in a scientific context. The use of the term "king tide" originated in Australia, New Zealand and other Pacific nations to refer to an especially high tide that occurs only a few times per year. The term has now come to be used in North America as well,[1] particularly in low-lying South Florida, where they cause sunny day tidal flooding.
-
Today - this morning - right now is the King tide for QLD. Hervey bay is getting a 4.32M tide today. On the local's facebook page there is a pic of the Kingfisher barge at the River Heads ramp. If any of you have ever been to Fraser that you'll understand when I say the barge is sitting as high as the carpark, the concrete ramp is completely submerged, and the barge ramp is set slightly downhill to the road to load vehicles. West beach camps at Coongul, Awinya, Wooralie will be getting wet and back beach camps with this swell and tide will no doubt be on the news tonight with a few getting washed away.
IF the low pressure, rain and storm surge was all aligned with today there would have been major trouble all along the East coast but the tides drop again from today - still pretty big though.
-
Apparently, more models are coming into line with it hitting the coast, but maybe just north of Fraser.
-
It's interesting looking at it's predicted path from a week ago

Weatherzone forum saying it's as good as dead, Cat 1 by morning they are saying and it's struggling to intensify due to the size of it's eye and no evidence of dry air entertainment (track map says Cat 2 still though).....will see how much rain it brings though, hope some places that need it get a drink

We'll get rain for sure and a bit of wind.
By the time it hits the coast, it won't be much bigger than a willy-willy by the current "modelling".
All the news channels are beside themselves, just itching for the first hit of a problem.

Out here, we're down for 3/4 of 5/8ths of fukk all so far.

Are you on town water or just tanks?
-
Tanks only....
28,000 or 30,000 litre underground unit, the main unit that feeds the house.
10,000 gal tank for drinking water washing cars and stuff, but I can draw from it for the house by switching some valves.
1,500 emergency tank, so if ya run everything out over a long week-end, you still have some backup until the water truck gets there.
All run on a separate pump, so if a pump Shits itself, we're still good to go.
Tons of water here at the moment, its just the yard is screwed.
Front dam (little bloke) dead dry.
Back dam, about 2 feet of water in it.
The 50 ducks and 4 turtles that live there will be fighting it out soon for the last drops.
I'm getting sparks off the tyres on the cars as I drive over the grass.
Poor ol farmers, are running irrigation every day.... the sun steals most of it.

Reading Weatherzone just now, don’t get your hopes up for to much rain...they reckon cyclone won’t come as close as first thought it might and might not even return next week now.

Yeah, the models seem to have it turning north further out so bugger all rain except for the coast, still plenty of uncertainty though so likely to change again.

Its that wild and wooly here atm apparently, its frightened or blew the skin of a Brown snake ;D ;D Just had roughly a 5' long skin come blowing down the footpath and wrap around our bin ;D
-
Down to a Cat 1 now and seems to have pulled up a fair way off the Coast, looks like it will sit there for the Weekend before heading North. I think wind and waves will be about the extent of the effects.

they showed a beach this morning that was pretty much gone, not sure which one it was - could have been TV speak - in other words very little changed not sure anymore.

that's nuttin, i've had 3 out 4 wheelie bins blow over..... damn you Oma.
(We have 2 for the cottage and 2 for the house)
-
Bye bye cyclone Oma, Ya Bin bandit old bitch, Promised us all a decent wet blow job and only gave a salutary puff and drizzle as you turned and run away, Short changed us on the rain we were supposed to get, 30 mm out of 300 + is something at least I guess ...
Now onto the next apocalyptic event of the week so the Gnat brained media and local governor Bleeters and Dooms dayers, can scare more of the mindless unwashed Sheeple ..
-
I wouldn't rule out it coming back yet....
Remember, years and years ago, we had a cyclone that behaved like a drunk walking up a steep driveway.
-
Yeah, If it finds a nice warm deep patch of ocean it could spin up again, A few of lows pushing up from the Southern areas with a warm front might help in the mix too .

You've got a lot to answer for with your "Making everything secure". It's so dry here I've started watering my cactus.

Yah, Weatherzone got one right :cup: Just a lucky guess? Wonder how many times they have got it wrong ;D

I'm having my morning coffee, looking out at a cloudless sky, with the lightest of a cool morning breeze...............and cursing like a drunk sailor cause I'd cancelled our weekend camping due to the forecast. The reporters in raincoats said we'd be having 10m waves at Beaudesert and 85 feet of rain blowing sideways from the 7000km winds.................curse the bastards.
-
Same sort of morning here.... really nice.
A mate from the Sunny coast has cancelled a week-end at Somerset for the same reasons.
Oh well, i'd been putting off checking the roof, at least now its done.

more often then not they have the forecast right several days beforehand, it's why I frequent that forum over reading the likes of Hollywood Higgens Facebook page or listening to the media beat up an event like they do.

Except for
Weatherzone forum saying it's as good as dead, Cat 1 by morning they are saying and it's struggling to intensify due to the size of it's eye and no evidence of dry air entertainment (track map says Cat 2 still though).....will see how much rain it brings though, hope some places that need it get a drink
which was wrong, guess that's the thing with forums, plennty of opinions, sorting out the ones worth listening too is the trickey bit, the Weatherzone forum consensus is likely to be more accurate more often than those who have financial incentives in sensationalising it though.

the thing was dying, it didn't go Cat 1 that next morning but was dying...may not of been 100% in thier call, but was alot closer then the doom and gloom predictions the news channels / weather guys they have continued on with the next 2 days, and then continued to tell everyone we'd get bucketloads of rain....some places got shower or two, we didn't even get a single spit of rain at my place.

Could'nt resist this one.

Just looking at JTWC http://www.metoc.navy.mil/jtwc/jtwc.html (http://www.metoc.navy.mil/jtwc/jtwc.html) & they also say a chance of Oma spinning back up. They're also watching another low out Fiji way

Fair enough, I didn't really see any media coverage of it so don't know what they were saying. The models I saw at that stage though showed it pull up further from the coast with no real rainfall, and it hanging there for a day or two before weakening and moving North which is what happened. The models aren't perfect but out to about 3 day's are generally pretty accurate. Further out than that everyone is pretty much just guessing, computer models included, but at least they normally show a low level of certainty as well.
-
For Christ's sake, its gotta rain out here soon.... please.
To this date last year, 254.2mm of rain.
To this date this year, 11.2mm of rain.
We get a tad more heat out here than Brisbane, and i'm pretty sure, yesterday was the first day this summer, we dipped under 30 degrees.
The grounds here are shot to hell at the moment.
I can't help but think, when we get rain, we'll really get RAIN.

Brisbanes run of 46 days above 30 degrees ended yesterday or the day before...Ipswich / out your way was at 61 days and still going

Northside of Brisbane is gunna cop a drop of rain in a minute.
We got smashed with 40mm in 30 minutes or thereabouts.
Oh well, typical Queensland, its a nice sunny day now.
-
Listening to the rumbles all around me and watching it preparing to do the magical split and diversion around us as storms always do when they come from that South West direction.
Will know in about 20 minutes if we get anything from it, but not expecting much at the moment.
-
we were down for a 50% chance of up to 1mm......
All morning, its been a dirty sky. I'd gone down to Rosewood to have a look at a second 64 Cadillac. (The idiot wasn't home either)
Leaving there, the sky was just getting a real dirty look to it.
When we had the boat, I got pretty good at reading the weather huh.
I got the ol Caddy shuffling along and home and safe. It was a win that the idiot wasn't home, I would've been in his shed and missed the warning signs.
I've got the caddy home dry, :cup:i've now got water in both dams....
-
Plenty of noise and a small amount of rain at Lota, waiting for the rain to stop so we can climb back up the scaffolding to finish the trusses we were standing today....glad I didn’t peel half the existing houses roof off this morning, we plan to do that tomorrow instead...lol....gunna need a few tarps to cover that up rest of this week.

Annoyed with this rain not like i wanted to fish tomorrow or anything...

Must be plenty of rain up on the hills to the west of us, the Sth Pine river has broken the bank on our back yard and is up around 1.5 metres

Awesome, that means there's a good chance the creek will be running at this weekends camping spot ;D

I think we are getting the Sh*t rain of Trevor, just a bit of drizzle and light wind.
I will go well north of us and go across to the gulf and keep going across they tell us.

We just got 25mm from a good little storm just now.
Though looking at the radar it was only on our side of Maleny, not much on the other side of the hills.
The whole area up here did get 120mm+ last Friday, so there should be something in the creek I expect.

the Brisbane radar shows we gunna get some more wet stuff shortly.
How the hell does a person copy and paste a radar screen?

Thanks rockrat....
At the last minute, it swung west enough to go past us.... ???
They're saying Lockyer Waters got 14mm, just not in my yard.
Only wanted it to make the grass keep going... we're green again here, but only just.
Just went out and had a look. 1mm :'(
-
We ended up getting 2.3mm during the night (just down the road got 0.4mm), but bayside and some Northside suburbs got around 30.0 - 60.0 mm

Not sure if it was a flock of birds flying over having a whizz or you could call it rain, had to put the wipers on after about 5 minutes of spots on the windscreen .

Weatherzone forum hasn’t been getting super excited about this event, so not expecting heaps from it here. Sounds like most places will get some rain, but the models don’t really agree on how much where.

Looking at the radars it appears between Longreach and Barcaldine is getting a good rinse at the moment.
Isisford has recorded 171mm since yesterday.
And parts of the Channel Country have had between 50mm and 80mm in that time.
I hope everyone that's been suffering on the land in those parts gets what they need out of this event.
Would be fantastic to fly over that area and see nature doing it's thing out there once the rain clears.
I've heard from friends that seeing the channel country from the air when everything is flowing is just amazing.

Starting to get some decent rain in the upper reaches of the Darling River too so hopefully might get to see that flowing again.

Nice, steady light rain out here.... perfect for out here now
Ah, the Lockyer Valley.... where the grass is greener and the girls are creamier.
-
Just cracked 9.91mm here but hasn't got over 21°. Had to throw a flanno on.

All 3 tanks for the house are overflowing now and the overflow should be reaching the back dam any second.
The cottage tank has been overflowing all day and is inflowing to the front dam. :cup:

14.2mm so far for us here today....grass is going crazy after the 120.0mm we got the other weekend, not looking forward to mowing it...lol.

60mm here at Cooroy in last day or so and still showers around, Craig

Both my tanks now full for the first time in ages. Gonna cost me heaps to get petrol for the 2 mowers and snipper. Bloody grass is going apesh!t. You would think it hasn't rained in months... hang on..

I've just mowed for 4 hours, so only about another 8 hours worth to do.

same dump from here Mal, it pretty much tracked straight to the Southside..... not much lightning for us, but lots of rumble.
The first bit hit at 1am and then the 3am jobbie I mentioned.
I'm dying to go check the dams, but in the dark, i'll end up arse over and in one of 'em.
update...
The back dam is only a foot from full and going over.
The front one will take another 2 feet yet.

Nothing today.
Nothing yesterday.
Nothing day before
4mm day before that.
6mm day before that.
Laid 50m of plumbing in the ground.
Redid the overflows on the water tanks.
Built a 10m2 deck and half done the handrails in the last 5 days.
Will probably mix up a couple of wheel barrows of concrete and install the stairs up to the deck this afternoon.
No shortage of Sunshine in this part of the Sunshine Coast. ;)

Back to one pull and its squirting again.

One knucklehead can start so much happening in a flash.

Sounds like a win, the issue with booking somewhere like there is that the weather can turn to crap but you have already paid up. If the weather is crap (too blowy) then they might have done you a favour.
-
Something like $6 per night per person there, not a big issue. Plus it the weather is looking Shite you can cancel and get your money back in credit for next time if you want

But it costs $250+ for annual beach permit so you need to figure that in.
$6 for the site is almost too good a deal. You generally need to book weeks in advance but when you get there you often see several empty sites....so maybe people just book them so they have the option to go but forfeit $6 at most if they choose not to.

I've also have a credit for the days paid for so, all good.

Jesus H Christ, didn't it blow its friggin ring off last night.
At 1:30am, it was bloody roaring through here.
Its gotta rain soon.
Everybody says how Stanthorpe, well, the southern downs, or crap, most of the southern Queensland area in general, has had no rain and is in drought conditions.
We have had only 30mm here, more than the drought effected areas.
I might be wrong, but when the rains come, I can't help but think, it will be in biblical proportion's.
We've had 173mm of rain for the calendar year to date.
Normal is 525mm..... its pretty dry out here.
We have 3 year old frogs here that haven't learnt to swim yet.

its amazing reading comments in the papers when they are doing hazard reductions, arseholes in the cities complaining lilke **** about the smoke, and 'surely they can do it at a better time'...
bet arseholes are now being quiet about it, or they will complain about people building houses near the bush.

Nice calm morning today, the sky is pretty clear, pretty much, no wind.
Bit of a change after yesterday.
Hope the firies can get on top of the trouble spots.

The town of Linville is under a "Leave Now" situation. It's not too good, by the sound of it.
-
Friggin wind just howled through here yesterday and last night.
Must be just terrific for a fire fighter trying to work in it.
The wind has dropped off a tad this morning, same as yesterday before picking up a few hours later.
I had to go out yesterday, friggin kills me to drive a car with so much dust around.
You can cut through the dust with a knife and the engine of a car just love ingesting fine dust.
Oh, I took the wife's car, no sense mistreating a classic car.
-
Had a mate that’s driving trucks in a mine at Dysart call me in a panic last night saying the fires are all over the news and he wanted to make sure we were ok.
I was laughing a said all of the fires are miles away from us.
After I hung up I chucked the news on to see and bugger me the Sunny Coast is alight. They where saying around 14 houses lost last night.
The wind was horrific down this way all night, I imagine the fires would have moved super fast in these conditions and it would have been a terrible night for everyone up there.
I hope everyone up on the northern end of the coast is ok today.
-
I remember watching the news when there have been serious fires down south and I use to think how lucky we are in Qld that we don't get those type of fires. How wrong was I. And now on the Sunny Coast. No lives lost so far. I hope it stays that way. And how are the heros who fight the fires. Kevin

I was talking to a lady yesterday from just up the road and I mentioned, we're supposed to get around 5mm of rain this week.
She said, no, October we are getting rain and lots of it.
How do you know that, i asked.
She said, that's what the onion man said, and he has never been wrong.
Apparently, Atkinson's dam refills every 7 years like clockwork..... it was last full in 2012.
Will be interesting now, to see if the onion man is still on form.
Mind you, while I want/need rain, I don't want a years worth in 1 month either.

That may well be what we all get ???
5ish years ago, there was a news article on Thursday night that Hinze Dam on the GC had hit 17%, & when it hit 16% the next level of water restrictions would cut in, which would include pumping recycled sewerage into the dam :'(. They finished off the article to say we were expecting "showers" that weekend, which would be nice but wouldn't have any real effect.
It absolutely pisted down that weekend ;D, & Monday night they announced that the Dam was now at 67%! :o It overflowed about 2 weeks later ;D
How did your area out there get on in the 2011 floods ???
-
WE had no flooding at all in 2011.... :cup:
-
Hey JC, I lived in Brightview from 2007-2016, so lived through all 2010, 2011 and 2013 floods. From our house, on a hill, the entire area was under around 2.5m of water. We were locked in for a week for each of these events. If you had no flooding in 2011, you weren’t in the Lockyer Valley😭
-
Pretty cool huh, we are one in about 5 houses that never copped it. :cup:

We missed most of yesterday's rain.
we scored a whooping 2mm.

We got 7.5!!! ;D :cup:
Sad, I know, getting excited about 7.5mm :'( ::)
On 28/6, we had 9.5mm - since then, up till yesterday, we've had a total of 6.5!, but our average for July, August & September is usually ~170mm.
At least it looks like it's done something to cool the bushfires up in the Hinterland.

we had a cell develop right above us.... again, not a drop here, by the time it hit Lowood, pissing down.
It only had to from 300 metres further west and we would have got more than the bit we got later in the day.

It’s not just kids being idiots with fires...
“An investigation is underway after two police officers fired their weapons during the dramatic arrest of a 53-year-old man suspected of lighting fires in north Queensland.
Police were called to Palm Grove in the Whitsunday Region about 3:00pm yesterday after a helicopter pilot witnessed a man allegedly lighting fires near Cedar Creek Falls.
Police allege when the officers found the man, he rammed their car with his vehicle.
Both officers fired at the man's vehicle.”

Looks like Peachtrees camping area could be getting burnt out now.
LEAVE NOW: Jimna bushfire as at 3.25pm Fri 8 Nov
Bushfire warning level: WATCH AND ACT
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire approaching Jimna from the west, and conditions are getting worse.
Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a plan, your safest option is to leave now if it is clear to do so. If you are not in the area, do not return, as conditions are too dangerous.
Currently as at 3.25pm Fri 8 November, a fast-moving fire is travelling towards Peach Trees Camping Area and the town of Jimna. The fire is approaching from the west. It is expected to impact the Jimna township within the hour. The fire could have a significant impact on the community.
Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door. Power, water, and mobile phone service may be lost.
People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.
Police are in the area assisting people to evacuate. People should evacuate south via Kilcoy Murgon Road, towards Kilcoy. An evacuation centre is open at Kilcoy Memorial Hall

Dunno bout batten down, but hope our locals are safe up there
Residents of Forest Ridge, about 110 kilometres south-west of Toowoomba, have been urged to take shelter with a large bushfire potentially posing a threat to "all lives directly in its path".
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services upgraded the fire to "emergency" level after 2pm on Wednesday as the fire approached Cypress Avenue and Wallaby, Koala and Kimberley drives at nearby Cypress Gardens.
But by 3.30pm QFES had advised those in Forest Ridge near Paddys Creek Road and its intersection with Pine Ridge Road it was "too late to leave".
"Your safest option is to identify where you will seek shelter from the bushfire," the warning read.

With a bit of luck Stanthorpe / Warwick and surrounds might get a bit wet tonight .. hopefully no damaging stuff .
-
The first one went through..... radar (not him) said it was pissing down. (not sure how accurate the radar is)
Not enough to wet the roof, not one drop in the tanks.
Second one, Shit load of wind, some rain and this morning, we have had 6.4mm
Never thought i'd see the day, when such a piddly amount of rain, would excite me.
-
Radar showed a huge red area went over my place. Checked the gauge this morning and .7 of a ml. :'( :'(
Yet others close by got 10-30 ml.

Hey Noel, get ready ol mate, the next wave of storms are building up right now.
I've booked 40,000 litres of water for my dam to be delivered tomorrow.
I would love to be able to cancel that, but I bet we still need it.
I've switched water to the tanks that overflow into the main dam.
50 to 60mm, and i'm a happy little swagger, tanks will fill and then I have dam inflows plus the rain inflows.
Past reports, say I will still be getting the water dropped tomorrow.
I just did a naked dance/run around the boundary line..... clouds took off the other way. ???

Storm going through now. We had 11mm yesterday afternoon, and hopefully similar, or more out of this one :D

So what's your Onion Man saying, Jeepers ???
-
One or two of the locals out here, reckons the onion man wouldn't know his arse from his elbow.
I tend to agree.
Some are saying, we'll get rain in Feb, others are saying April.
So, in other words, no silly kent has a glue when it will rain.
The best we can hope for, is a cyclone Cat 1or 2) to develop, cross the coast south of Mackay/north of Rocky.
Once it becomes a rain depression, it would bring very welcome rain to inland Queensland and down to us and northern NSW.
Will it happen.... fukked if I know.
-
& not just you ???
From BoM:
"Summary of the Tropical Cyclone Seasonal Outlook for the Eastern Region (ie. the Coral Sea and the Tasman Sea):
* For the 2019-20 season, there is ~40% chance of more than average or ~60% chance of fewer than average tropical cyclones in the Coral Sea region.
* In an average season, the Eastern Region has around four tropical cyclones
* Any tropical cyclone in the Eastern Region has a one in four chance of crossing the eastern Australian coastline."
So probably less than 4 cyclones (although it's just about Christmas & not even a whisper of one yet) but only a 1:4 chance of crossing the coast.
Not holding my breath on a cyclone / depression fixing things in the short-term :'(

Went out yesterday and bought two portable Rinnai 3.5kw air conditioners.
Shop price of $799 each, walked out the door at $599 each.
Had one up and running yesterday after the house was locked up all day with a high of 42.
Not as good as a proper unit, but it worked pretty good, all things considered.
Could only fit one unit in the car, so back today for number 2.
Should've been in the Cadillac, could've got both in that at one time.

Little bit of noise, just a bit of farting around to work out the best spot for them.
In Gatton yesterday morning, the "outside temp" on the statesman showed 44 at 10:30 am.
Here at home, with it parked in the carport since midday, at 3:15, it showed 49.
I know a place down the road was showing 45 on their verandah, so 49 might be correct.

Nobody needs to see the horrors of that teeth out nudie run... ;D :)

Bloody 'ell, with my teeth out, i look like a friggin sock puppet.
Had to give the nudie run a miss fairly early into the run, after I stepped on one of my own nuts.
It would seem, at 60, underwear is a necessity rather than an option. :-[
Haven't checked the gauge yet, but I think we would've got 20 or 25mm last night.
Now that was pretty good rain, but I need more, I need this friggin dam up at least a metre.
I've put in 56,000 litres so far and its still low enough, that evaporation is still a big issue.
The turtles and birdlife always give me a thumbs up though whenever I shell out for water.

Jeez, somebodies dog escape and their stupid, I’ve seen dogs scale Shit they wouldn’t normally even look at trying to get over when thunder storms hit, plus keep in mind dogs hear better than us so they will pick up on a storm well before we do.
Give em a break.

Our cattle dog bashed its way through the laundry door in a storm. Literally smashed a dog sized hole through the door.

Same old dogs getting out. Also how smart do you have to be to know that dogs dont like thunderstorms. I,ve been through half a dozen cyclones and many thunderstorms and never had a dog get out. Always sit with em when storms are around. Missus also Shit scared of thunder. Our local resident forum on farcebook sees dogs roaming everyday of the week. Often repeat offenders. If you cant look after your dog properly...give it to some one who can. Its no wonder many people get pissed off with roaming dogs. We also have recent cassowary, and chicks, sightings and roaming dogs are the last thing we need decimating our wildlife.

Just had our first ever proper storm here this afternoon.
We built 13 years ago and have watched every storm for all of those years form to our SW, come straight at us, then split in half and go either side of us. We always have to be content with just a bit of rain and thunder.
But today, this one formed right of top is us and let loose.
It was the first time I’ve seen hail here and the wind was intense.
I watched the crowns come off 4 trees around the house, I expect there will be heaps more down in the other couple of acres out the back.
Just finished cleaning up the 2 that came down on the boundary and repaired the fence enough to keep the dog in tonight.
Fortunately we had given the chickens away recently, I recon there would have been a few casualties in the pen if they had of been in there.
Will clean up that area tomorrow.
Edit;
And now as I finish off my beer and start to walk inside to go for a shower the power goes out..... :(
Lucky I serviced the generator last month... :)

Glad to see you got some rain Pete.
I was sitting in the cube farm at work looking towards the north west from the 20th floor. It was looking pretty ominous but just like that the storm split and missed the CBD completely.

Saw that brown & black on the rader yesterday and wondered if you were getting it. The whether warning said that one was nasty.
-
Pete we have had two storms, Monday and yesterday. A few branches down and damage to the chook house and car port / shelter. I thought I was the only one that watched BOM in anticipation of a drop of rain, only to see it fizzle out just down the road.
Our big concrete house tank couldn’t take the rain load yesterday afternoon and the full height hairline crack let go and we lost over 50,000 ltrs of drinking water overnight, the cow paddock grass will appreciate that.
I didn’t realise how much new concrete tanks cost.

Man, that would be devastating to see all that water go. :(
I only deal with foleys (https://foleystanks.com.au) these days.
Their tanks have the same warranty as all the poly stuff these days. But most importantly, it’s a true family business with awesome customer service.
Seriously can’t recommend them enough.
-
Not sure if there is anyone around SEQ doing tanks like this company. My old place in the Blue Mts ( which is still standing after being impacted by recent fires again for the 5th time).
I had a 120000litre tank with a shed built over the top best $5000 (for the tank) I spent building the house in 1990.
https://www.panthersconcretetanks.com.au/ (https://www.panthersconcretetanks.com.au/)
Only issue was I never had a big enough roof to fill the tank until I extended the house, plus 3 car garage and the shed, then it would overflow if a cloud cast a shadow over the property.
-
Yeah “All cast precast” will do whatever you want.
I looked at a couple of options from those guys, but once you go away from the standard 5,000 gallons the cost just blows them out too much.
I wanted to use their tanks to help form a bit of a retaining wall, but I could get 3 times the storage with gal tanks for roughly the same price.
Was much cheaper to get my mate over with his excavator to batter the bank I was looking to retain and form a pad for normal tanks while he was here.

I know it’s not snow, but….. It was/is a tad chilly here this morning. The weather screen shot is from the Kingaroy weather station which is usually a couple of degrees warmer then Nanango in winter.
-
Sister and her hubby aren't far from you, at Moore. He's got a pretty flash weather station which recorded -2° this morn. A decent frost, too.
-
Had to scrape the ice of the windscreen on a work van this morning, so it must have got a tad under the 6deg forecast for suburban Brisbane?
-
Hey Jeepers, looks like you’re in for a rough afternoon ??? ???

We were right inline for a direct hit of hail.
At the last minute, it drifted south.
I reckon it skimmed the front fence..... so all good.
Thanks for caring enough to ask, or laugh.... or whatever. ;D LOL
Couple of days ok, i would have begged for decent lightning strike to the head.
-
We well & truly knew when to come home! 8)
Left Blackbutt ~9.30 with a couple of very fine sprinkles - as at 4pm they'd had 88mm!!! :o :o :o
We commented coming down the Brisbane Valley that it was all dry, & not one creek that we crossed had water in it :'( - I don't think that'll still be the case now!

15mm here, no hail and very little wind.
The bit that missed us, resulted in over 100mm and hail close by.
I was happy not to see it.
-
Got ya caddy under cover?
-
Bugger all here..... a small cell swept directly over us, bit of heavy rain. 3 or 4mm at a guess
Second one went below us like last week...... maybe a mm or two at best.
Must be the lay of the land or something. No doubt, we will cop a cracker sooner or later.
-
Gonna get ya today??

More coming
‘Wild weather change’ set to smash huge swathes of Australia
In a dramatic weather turn, a low-pressure system is set to bring rain, snow, soaring temperatures and “hundreds of thousands” of lightning strikes.
Forecasters have warned of a “wild change” to the weather in the country’s south and east as the week progresses.
Sydney and Brisbane could see temperatures of up to 35C. At the same time Melbourne could get a drenching and snow could descend on higher ground in Victoria and Tasmania.

Gonna get ya today??
We were in the sites, but it slipped through to the northwest of us..... JUST.
We're pretty lucky here like that.
However, for everyone that just misses us, gets us one step closer to the bug one that does hit us.
Be lucky to have got 2mm yesterday.
The tanks are full, dam is almost full, grass is green, so i'm happy not to cop a Shitload of rain.

We got 1mm of rain as the storms went around us, yet again.
Tanks are full.... so happy for that to happen.
-
We had hail and rain in a 30 minute squall.
-
Just tallied the rainfall figures for October.
Our 7 year average is 83.3mm - this year we had 196.5!!! :o
That definitely counts as a tad wetter than usual!
-
And 210km n/w we have had 62mm for the month ???
-
If you can believe the forecast, some decent rain due over the next 5 days.
We're down for between 80 and a 160mmout here in Woop Woop..
Be nice to see some wet stuff end up in Wivenhoe.
-
You better buy shares in roundup, because you'll spend more time mowing than getting that car moving. ;D

& right ATM, we don't have any gutters on the roof!
Roofie started the job of replacing them on Thursday, then it showered on & off all Friday so he couldn't get up to clean the roof, & now it's supposed to rain most of next week, so who knows what's going to happen ??? ::)
Be nice to see some wet stuff end up in Wivenhoe.
It would. We had a fair amount for October but it only kept Hinze level (which I suppose is better than dropping!). A good dink into Somerset & Wivenhoe would be good though.

We ended up with 3mm.
They're saying, a 90% chance of 20 to 40mm for today..... lets see what happens.
UPDATE.... now saying, 40 to 80mm... I think 20 would be nice if we can get it.

Roofie finished our brand new roof guttering yesterday arvo, just in time for it to get a workout overnight, with ... 4.5mm! ;D
It's all still attached & hanging up there, so I guess he must of done a good job ;D
Still guessing 15-25 mm for the rest of today, but the Sun is shining ATM, so we'll see ???
-
we scored 25mm and about to go again.
This is just one of our strainers today.... cute little tacker.
Drink the water and the frog Shit is free.
-
Nice! ;D
How'd that area get on during 2011, Jeeps ???
-
We had no flooding on our place at all.
We have some aerial shots of it during the flood.
Some places not too far from us went under.... but not us.
-
So looks like the rain is pretty well done, so how'd we all get on ???
Jeeps, it looks like the dams out your way are still dried out dust-bowls ??? :'(
Didn't you get anything out there ???
-
We've had 88mm since Monday afternoon.
I mowed the Shit out of the place before the rains..... the Shits getting long already, really fast.
-
But there's nothing in the dams ???
On that, just spotted that Leslie Dam is spilling!!! ;D :cup:
Be just about worth a trip out there just to look at it - it must be a big lake now! ;D
-
We really need a cyclone/rain depression to fill the 2 big dams.
What we had this week was fine for the little guys..... the big 2 need way more than that.
-
So looks like the rain is pretty well done, so how'd we all get on ???
Our creek out the back has started flowing for the first time in a long time.
Driving up to Maryborough and back yesterday there was heaps of rain between heading up there early in the morning and coming back after lunch. So much water moving through the paddocks everywhere north of Gympie.
My mate out near Nanango shared this pic of the new inland sea that has formed out that way. :)

We had 315mm for November. To put that into perspective our total rainfall for 2020 was 526.5mm.
-
We've had 145mm so far this month.
-
Some pretty wicked looking storms marching in from over the border.
Lots of Shit colours on the radars.

is that Code Brown?

Yea, the main band of nasty looking stuff has almost passed over Kalbar, had some small hail and a bit of rain and a few gusts. The satellite should pick up again shortly.

Be just about worth a trip out there just to look at it - it must be a big lake now! ;D
Gates at Leslie Harrison Dam - originally fitted in the 1980s - came down in 2015 as part of engineering investigations and to improve safety.
They have never been replaced despite calls from residents and the state opposition, who have also been among those pushing for recreation activities like canoeing and fishing.
"The main concern is that half of the dam is going out to sea and often causing havoc along the way," Mr Robinson said.
"The best drought-proofing measure for the future is a whole dam full of water, not half a dam."
.
-
I thought for a bit, the storm was going to brush us.
We scored the very western end of the Shitty stuff.
LOTS of wind, some solid rain (12.5mm) and maybe a few hundred hail stones. (marble sized)
Still pretty loud on a tin lid.
I think Lowood and some others might've copped a bit more than us.

150 metres. It’s up at the 100 year level.

His property is high, but not dry ie he is currently flooded in but is confident that his property will not go under.

Ya know a flood is on when,
Local cattlemen move their stock.
This arvo they moved their cattle to higher ground.
Our ferry stop operating yesterday arvo, river height gauges throughout the Clarence Valley and catchments have risen, with more predicted falls, there will be many road closures.
It's part of living in The Clarence Valley.
:)

96 on Woodford Island we went through a big flood, I said to Fysh, never again, so we bought here high up on the hill.

Roads get cut, most people prepare well.

Yep..... we're going great.
we've now had 365mm in 36 hours, but most of it in 24 hours.
Well over 400mm for the week and no flooding and don't expect o either.
Pretty wild weather/rainfall.

THIS IS 2011.... NOT TODAY.
Our place and Wivenhoe with the water all the way to the top.
That's our place at the tip of the pen. The lagoon is the lower/right portion of the photo, with Atkinson's dam behind us in the top of the photo. That's a SEQ Water channel right beside us that connects the two. TODAY....The gates on the lagoon are open and its running hard, Atkinson's dam is at 70% and will be full this afternoon, but has a natural spill, so can't back onto us. You can see in the photo, the area i call the black forest and when i say, we back onto Atkinson's dam, i mean, we back onto it.
-
I've often wondered why they dont pipe line the flood waters out west... yes ti would cost Shit loads but its better than wasting it... once its done it would pay for itself for drought ravaged places in central..
If you were hoping the wet weather might finally be on the way out, we have some bad news. Meteorologists have said it could be soggy until April.
-
Hi Fizzie
We aren’t getting anywhere near the numbers that are falling closer to the coast. Yesterday was a big one, relatively speaking, with 86mm falling. East and south Nanango have both gone under to some extent, but nothing too severe yet. We live on a hill, so will never be impacted by anything less than Noah proportions😂, thanks for asking🙂
-
Watched the live higgins site thing this morning. (just a little while ago)
It would seem, we have the potential for a further 500 to 700mm yet to come.
Shit is getting serious now too, had to postpone the roll cage in the Zephyr because the ground is too wet to get it out.
-
A few photos of our block with the South Pine in flood, currently around 2 metres below the workshop floor level which if the surveyors got it righ is 450mm above 100 year flood level.
Edit buggered if I know why the 2 photos turned sideways, will see if I can fix later.

Ha ha ha.... this is pretty rare.
The flat footed, blonde crested, yellow coated, short arsed, Norwegian duck.
So very rare to see one in the wild in Australia.

Jeez, a raincoat!!! :o :o :o
Now you're really gonna cop it! >:D
-
Not as much as the Sunny Coast by a long shot, but 446mm here in 48 hours and if you include the 60 we got early in the week, we've cracked in so far for a whopping 506mm of rain.
AND NO FLOODING.....yet.
Out here, around an even 1,000 to 1,200 would cover the whole year.

Rain has stopped/eased this morning in most areas, but the river isn't expected to peak for another day or two. Then the mud army will spring into action.

Just heard from son at Nundah - sun is now out (after ~750mm in 4 days) so it's going to get nice & steamy! ::) :P

Well thank you Mr. I'm Full Of Good News. :D
Friggin humid outside at the moment.
If comes back around, we're good to go a second round.
I'm thrilled with how well the ol Ponderosa coped with 630mm in such a short time.
Sad for folks being flooded of course.

Heavy rains and dangerous weather continued to hammer the north coast on Tuesday.
A stunning picture has laid bare the NSW flood crisis that plunged a major regional city under water and left desperate people stranded.

That's the Maccas in Lismore.
Also a bit more perspective it is about 700m from the closest section of the Wilson River.

Unless you've driven through Lismore, you can't really grasp how bad it is and the actual depth of the water.

Maggots are out and about
Queensland Police Minister Mark Ryan has described the people behind three reported looting incidents across the state’s south-east as “grubs”.
Commissioner Katarina Carroll told reporters on Tuesday that the three burglary incidents had been reported in flood affected areas Goodna, Bundamba and Blackstone around Ipswich, west of Brisbane.
A man has been arrested and charged over one incident, with investigations into the other two ongoing.
An angered Mr Ryan spoke soon after, saying that police would find those responsible for the actions and put them before the courts.
“If you’re thieving from them [people whose homes have flooded], you’re not a Queenslander, you’re a grub.” :cup:

So it started raining ~midnight Sunday, then didn't ease off till ~4am this morning so 28 hours of fairly solid rain.
Yesterday morning we'd had 37mm, then emptied another 89 during the day, 62mm at 9pm last night, then poured out another 149mm at 7 this morning, making 302mm since yesterday morning, or 339mm for 31 hours!!! :o :o :o
& now, after a few hours break, it's raining again ::)
My heart goes out to those people who are still trying to clean up after last month's effort :'(
-
Oh well, here we go again with what is called a rain bomb these days. ::)
We'll see it start to really kick in tomorrow after a few days of showers. (only 45mm to 6am yesterday)

We're still flooded in, but all good at the Jeepers house itself. :cup:

I think that it will be a few days after the rain stops, probably a day or two longer than the 'old days'. I remember being stuck for 4 days at Smithfield then getting home via the Kuranda Range and Gillies Hwy. To get up the Kuranda Range we had a front end loader clearing a lane, letting a couple of vehicles through while the landslide slowly slumped a bit more, cleared again, rinse and repeat. No way that would be done now, a complete reconstruction would be required. Australia Day 1974, that was one of my more exciting fishing trips. Went up the coast for an afternoon's fishing, got back a week later. In the HR ute, towed across the then causeway at Oak Creek, teamed up with a couple of blokes in an old Telecom swb Inter ute, chainsawed trees, rolled boulders out of the way, head out the window to see as the rain was so heavy, water sloshing on the floor of the cabin. All to no avail as the road was cut (as usual) at Tomatis Creek.

Just about!
Over 10 years of records, our average for Jan is 199.7mm, with an annual average total of 1478.4.
Last year was overall dry with only 126.8 for Jan.
Yesterday we had 119mm + ~110 since 9am, so we've already smashed the monthly average & are at ~15% of our annual total! :o
So are we in for another wet one, or is it going to go dry after this, as it did last year ???
How much of it are you getting ???
-
How much of it are you getting ???
It's all passed through just a tickle south of us, only 100mm over the last 24h here. 15min down the road around Beaudesert & Canungra have been getting smashed though. Friends near Jimboomba haven't had power since Xmas Eve & Energex are saying it could be another 10 days yet.

Good to hear you're OK :cup:
Talking to a bloke on another forum who's at Clagiraba (between Nerang & Canungra). They lost power on Christmas Day, & last estimate from Energex is 5 Jan! :o :'(
He's lucky because he's got a gennie which is keeping their fridge & freezer going, but lot's of others are much worse off :'(
Our power went off for 4 hours on 27/12 (so not connected to the storms, so buggered if I know why ???), so the Engel went on to battery & the van fridge on gas, in case we needed them for food, but came good again without needing them ;D

On Tuesday, weather stations in the Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett regions, particularly near Yeppoon, recorded more than 100mm of rain in just six hours.
