Title: Off with a BANG
Post by: edz on April 05, 2016, 04:10:09 PM
Just ducked into the shops, parked in the shade for 10 minutes, Waiting for the wife and " BANG " car rocks a bit ..
Jump out to find the spare tire had decided to become a Jihadi and become a suicide bomber and blew itsef to pieces ... Bloody Dunlops .. No virgins for this one though . Missus is ticked off though as it wrecked her tire cover ;D
Vehicle sees a few hours of sun 4 days a week, most weeks , other than that its garaged, tire was about 20% tread, tire preasure a month ago was 32 PSI .. Kinder casts a bit of doubt over the other tires now though .
So inspect those spares you have hanging off the back of your trucks or trays, Never know when they might want to end it all ..

Looking at the sidewall it appears that is might be a fairly old tyre.  What year was manufacture and has it had and repairs done to it?

Actualy a woman carrying a baby walked past one car over as it went off, gave her a hell of a fright and didn't even wake bub up  .. haven't had a look at the date stamps yet,  But it would be older than 4 years..
No other damage or repairs I could see ..  Its a 215 / 70R / 16 fitted on 99 RAV 4... Shane

Wouldnt be the first time someones run out of spares and had to fill a tire carcass with sand or dirt and wrapped it with a couple of rolls of duct tape or straps to limp a few more K's closer to help .

Out mustering north of Kalgoorlie and got a flat on the motorbike. Ripped the tire off and filled it with spinerfex. We were in a 65000 acre paddock at the time so Ihad no other option. Cut my hands to Shite but still finished the day and got home.
Don't think spinifex will fix that one but. Maybe spinifex and duct tape.  And baling twine.
