Hi, We have recently purchased our first Camper Trailer, A 2003 Jayco Eagle Outback and are looking forward to many great trips with it. We are already talking about going for a 4-5 week trip up towards Alice Springs sometime next year. We will be traveling from Hobart Tasmania. We are towing it with a Ford Territory SZ MkII 2.7-litre V6 turbo-diesel. Any suggestions for first time camper owners on what might be required for a longer trip? Previously only camped with tents for a week at a time.
Standard Outback inclusions with the following:
- 2nd Gas Bottle Mount for 4.5kg
- 2 Pole carriers
- Box on drawbar
- Annex with sides
- Fly ends
- 3 Jerry can holders on rear bar
- Water pressure pump
- 110 aH AGM Battery and Ctex MXS15 Charger
- Tregg Hitch
Cheers, Adam.

Hi Adam
one thing to take on your first trip beer (or your fav drink)
that way if you've forgotten something, drink beer and forget you forgot it
glad you could join us on the forum

You'll need a 12/240 v fridge (Waeco,Engel type in car to keep that cold beer close at hand I reckon.
If your not setting up for long periods of time you probably wont use the annexe walls, maybe 1 end but not the whole annexe.
Maybe a ground mat thingy.
Maybe a solar thingy too.
Oh yeah dont forget the beer.
Happy trails and welcome.
Cheers Glen

Hi Adam and welcome to Myswag mate. Looking at the back end of your Territory, I personally would be looking at some airbags it looks to be sagging a bit.

Thanks guys.
I have repacked the camper a number of times now and have gotten ball weight down a bit for now, until the wife decides to squeeze more into the camper.
We are considering a trip over to WA early next year so will be looking at adding the following:
- Solar Panel
- 3 Jerry cans, either Fuel or Water. Any recommendations on combinations?
- UHF Radio to Terrirtory
What would you not leave home without for such a trip?
Cheers, Adam

Consider one of those ramp things that our caravaner friends use to level their vans. Used to use blocks of wood but the plastic ramp is so much easier. Camp sites are rarely level especially near rivers etc

Thanks feisty, we already have one ramp and some blocks of treated pine for under the legs. Wonder if that will be enough?

Hey sounds fine. If you have a compressor you can always let a tyre down.
Funny part is I seem to reduce what I take every time I go away. All those things I thought we needed 'just in case' I've rarely used so have ditched them.
Would aim for more than one solar panel if you are running are compressor fridge.
Don't forget the first aid kit and consider a sat phone or similar as it's amazing how much of Australia doesn't have coverage.
