Was going to post this in the what made you smile today thread but given the fact it made me burst out laughing I thought it might be worth its own thread.
Was leaving work last night around 10:30pm and walking along the edge of the car park when I came across a possum. Just a little fella about half grown.
Spotting me coming he’s headed for the nearest tree. Shot straight up the trunk and along the first branch about 5 feet off the ground. Unfortunately for him he’s neglected to go the extra 6 inches to get onto the top of the branch. Momentum has taken him about a foot and a half and then the inevitable happened – gravity took over and he’s hit the ground.
As if that wasn’t funny enough he’s then bolted around the other side of the tree and repeated the whole scenario – up the trunk, along the underside of the branch and BANG – contact with mother earth.
As I’m standing there laughing uncontrollably he has, after lying stunned for a minute, gathered his remaining dignity and bolted off (along the ground) actually going around the next tree.
Any other amusing animal stories out there ?

l have been doing the slashing of about 20 acres of open ground for fire season . When l start the tractor 2 or 3 Magpies follow me to where l am working . As l go the number of birds grows to sometimes 10 or more , they eat the crickets & lizards in the grass . l reckon that they think l really there to arrange a feed for them . After 8 hours or so they have to walk home as they cant fly with a gut full of beetles :cup:

At work on monday, out doing the rounds and afternoon lock up, there was this butcherbird type thing attacking its own reflection in the mirrored sunroof of a highend Merc sportster.. Bloody bird was going at it that hard that it crapped on the Merc ... though to self " How appropriate " I reckon it looked crap too . ;D

Back in my slashing days, same thing would happen, as well as the kookaburra's...they especially loved hangin' round, waiting for the snakes to high-tail it ;D

Found a crimson rosella near the back door one day, couldn't fly, flapping around on the ground. Contacted a local wildlife rescue mob and took it around to their bird expert.
Turned out the bird was p!ssed!! Some local trees flowers turn alcoholic at that time of year and this is not so uncommon.
Bird got to stay in rehab for a few days, and they released it back into our local area.
